The annual Quality Counts national survey by Education Week magazine has been published and the overall state rankings are not good news for our state.

The Mississippi Senate has quickly passed a charter school bill that, if approved, by the House, will dilute the money available for public education and set up a system of competing schools not supervised by the state Department of Education.

The decision by the New Albany Board of Aldermen to seek federal money to help improve safety and walking and bike paths around city schools is a good one.
