  • Set the same rules

    Dear Editor:

It is ironic that the legislature wants to improve education by creating charter schools that would be exempt from many of the laws the legislature created.
Additionally, charter schools would be exempt from many of the regulations that were derived from those laws.
Why not change those laws and regulations for everyone?

  • Thanks for supporting Pilot Club

    Dear Editor:

The Pilot Club of New Albany hosted the 3rd annual Father/Daughter Ball this past Saturday. What a huge success it was. We would like to thank all the fathers and daughters who attended and helped to make this such a success.  We appreciate the patience shown and apologize for the lines for the balloon man and pictures. We try each year to improve by evaluating the previous year.

  • Charter schools opposed

    Dear Editor:

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, along with Senate Education Chairman, Sen. Gray Tollison, have recommended a bill, SB 2401, that would take local ad valorem taxes from one district to fund a charter school in another district. It is unimaginable that the our elected representatives would pass a law to fund charter schools in one county with tax dollars from another.

  • Trailer park vote explained

    Dear Editor:

After two weeks of intense soul searching, I could not cast my vote to purchase the Eastview Mobile Home Park with taxpayer money Tuesday evening.
Knowing the emotional, sensitive nature of feelings in our City recently due to the death of Amanda Price, my wife and I feel a strong need to honor Amanda’s memory in some small way.  So we have decided to commit $1,000 of our personal savings to help purchase Eastview.

  • Liquor vote outcome praised

    Dear Editor:

Recently we went to the polls to once again vote on whether or not to come out from under the dry law in Union County. And once again the liquor referendum was defeated, this time by a larger margin than in 2008. I know there are many pastors and church members who feel as do, but I want to personally say how proud I am to live in a place where folks realize the negative effects of liquor far outweigh any economic benefit.

  • Wine and spirts sale supported

    Dear Editor:

By way of introduction, I am a resident of Alabama who has business interests in New Albany and visits the area quite often. I am very excited at the prospect of economic growth being offered by the upcoming referendum to allow sales of wine and spirits.

  • East Union footbal editorial criticized

    Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to the “Our Opinion” section in Friday’s Dec. 16, New Albany Gazette.

  • Amanda Price was a friend

    Dear Editor:

Amanda Price was a beautiful Christian friend. Words seem so inadequate to express her life, but there is another way that we can express ourselves to her family. Tuesday I kept hearing comments from people in our community about being scared and fearful or concerned about the safety of our area after this tragedy.

  • Thanks for supporting school PTO

    Dear Editor:

The New Albany Elementary School PTO would like to express our sincere appreciation to the numerous businesses and individuals that contributed in some way to the first Deck the Halls Shopping Extravaganza. Because of you, this event was successful!

  • Anti-smoking ordinance supported

    Dear Editor:

It’s my turn! For years and years I suffered with horrible sinus infections, bronchitis, pneumonia and other ailments. It got so bad that my ears would stop up and I couldn’t hear. I’d get dizzy and could not drive. Finally, I had sinus surgery – a most painful and difficult experience.
