  • Liquor vote outcome praised

    Dear Editor:

Recently we went to the polls to once again vote on whether or not to come out from under the dry law in Union County. And once again the liquor referendum was defeated, this time by a larger margin than in 2008. I know there are many pastors and church members who feel as do, but I want to personally say how proud I am to live in a place where folks realize the negative effects of liquor far outweigh any economic benefit.

  • Wine and spirts sale supported

    Dear Editor:

By way of introduction, I am a resident of Alabama who has business interests in New Albany and visits the area quite often. I am very excited at the prospect of economic growth being offered by the upcoming referendum to allow sales of wine and spirits.

  • East Union footbal editorial criticized

    Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to the “Our Opinion” section in Friday’s Dec. 16, New Albany Gazette.

  • Amanda Price was a friend

    Dear Editor:

Amanda Price was a beautiful Christian friend. Words seem so inadequate to express her life, but there is another way that we can express ourselves to her family. Tuesday I kept hearing comments from people in our community about being scared and fearful or concerned about the safety of our area after this tragedy.

  • Thanks for supporting school PTO

    Dear Editor:

The New Albany Elementary School PTO would like to express our sincere appreciation to the numerous businesses and individuals that contributed in some way to the first Deck the Halls Shopping Extravaganza. Because of you, this event was successful!

  • Anti-smoking ordinance supported

    Dear Editor:

It’s my turn! For years and years I suffered with horrible sinus infections, bronchitis, pneumonia and other ailments. It got so bad that my ears would stop up and I couldn’t hear. I’d get dizzy and could not drive. Finally, I had sinus surgery – a most painful and difficult experience.

  • Alcohol petition opposed

    Dear Editor:

I see that Satan has reared his ugly head again in trying to get more alcohol into our town. You see, Satan is always in the “now” business. He doesn’t want us to see into the future, and know the pain and heartache that alcohol can cause.

  • Amendment 26 supported

    Dear Editor:

There is much discussion regarding Amendment 26 and what it may or may not accomplish. However, with rumors flying around, one question should be considered: Does life begin at conception?

  • A visit from the city inspector

    Dear Editor,

You recently published a letter I had written concerning the inequality of the removal of signs advertising carport sales while the politicians’ signs remain without question wherever they place them.

  • Thanks for downtown displays

    Dear Editor:

I would like to thank all the downtown merchants that participated in the “Fall Display Contest.”   Every one of them was fantastic.  There were 20 merchants that participated and credit is due all of them for their hard work, creativity, and dedication to give back to the beautification of the downtown business district.
