  • Summer day perfect at 90

Among the topics on which we almost never agree at our house is the weather. Perfect weather to me means the sun is out and the temperature is about 90.

  • Getting off the couch

I had no idea ya’ll were so much fun!

When I rushed home after work on Friday, I didn’t feel much like going out again. At the end of the week, I’m usually ready to loaf.

  • ‘Explore” our area

When Jenny and I moved to Florence, Ala., a few years ago, we spent the first night in a hotel while waiting for the movers to deliver our belongings.

We didn’t know much about the town, but in our hotel room, we found a guide outlining things to see and do, and local restaurants to try.

  • Three things cause stress

Somebody once told me the three things that cause the most stress between spouses are raising kids, taking a family vacation and moving.

Who knows whether it’s true. For some people, including Tiger Woods, there probably are other things that cause more stress. Enough said about that one.

  • Anniversary? Who cares?

     My wife just doesn’t understand.

“Who cares if it’s your anniversary? she said.

  • More fun than yard work?

The good news is I shot a personal record low of 68 on the golf course last week. I’m pretty proud of myself.

The bad news is I only played nine holes – but it was still the best golf score I’ve ever gotten. The few times I’ve played, I have consistently shot in the high 70s for nine holes. My low score for 18 holes is 156.

  • Real estate to Hee Haw

Random notes from the passing week:

We’ve gotten another sales contract on our house in Florence, Ala.

  • Cups and cookbooks

Last weekend was all about cups and cookbooks at our house. Well, actually it was mostly about watching college basketball on television, but it wasn’t supposed to be.

  • A house with character?

Our 46-year-old house in Florence, Ala., has been a great house, and we’ve really enjoyed living there. It’s got a lot of space, a sunroom where we can watch the birds, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks, lots of trees and bulb-filled flower beds.

But like any older house, it has its share of little flaws and idiosyncrasies.

  • Weddings and real life

I don’t like weddings much, even though I’ve had three of them. They’re usually high-stress times geared as much for the bride and groom’s relatives as for the happy couple.
