  • Previewing the fast pitch playoffs

    The end of this week officially marks the end of the regular season for softball, and it looks like the divisions are settled and we know who will make the playoffs.
    Starting in 1A, I had the chance to watch the Myrtle-West Union series on Monday and Tuesday, with the Lady Eagles taking the sweep to pick up its sixth straight division title. West Union closed out its division slate on Wednesday with a 6-5 win at home against Ingomar to finish a perfect 8-0 in district play.

  • Eagles win at Myrtle

    Hunter Jennings had two hits to lead West Union in a 6-2 win at Myrtle on Tuesday.
    The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, with Chase Bogue, Caleb Jennings and Alex Work bringing in runs.
    Andrew Childers and Hunter Jennings would extend that lead in the fifth, with Childers hitting and RBI single and Jennings an RBI double, making it 5-0.
    The Hawks scored their first runs in the fifth, placing runners on the corners for Anthony Lipsey. Taylor Hogue stole home before Lipsey brought in Austin Floyd on a single.

  • New Albany's Spears signs with Mississippi State

    For one New Albany basketball standout, her storied career took the next step on Wednesday, signing to play at Mississippi State.

    Jazmine Spears has entertained fans for the last five seasons, serving as the backbone for the Lady Bulldogs and leading her team to a 4A state title in 2011. The senior will keep the same colors and mascot as she heads to State in the fall.
