  • Myrtle, NAHS fall on the road

    Ripley 87 NAHS 62

    The Bulldogs were unable to find the basket early, as they fell in a hole and could not comeback versus Ripley Tuesday night.

    Searching for consistancy, Kareem Brown New Albany in scoring for the second game in a row, as his 13 paced the Bulldog offense. Cameo mabry added 11 on the night.

    Ripley held a 45-23 advantage at the half, and another 23 in the third put the game out of reach for New Albany, who are now 3-5 on the year.

    Acie Vane led the Tigers with 24,while Tyrie Berry had 14 and Tyson Rutherford 10.

  • West Union continues winning ways in bowling

    West Union continued on their winning ways early in this bowling season, as both the boys and girls defeated South Panola.

    On the girls side, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Tigers 5-3, despite the high game and high series both coming from South Panola.

    Marlee Goforth held both titles in the match, as she bowled a 145 for the high game, and a 390 for the high series. Jessica Clark led the Lady Eagles, as she bowled a 358 series.

  • New Albany receives State AG's opinion on rezoning issue

    The State of Mississippi Attorney General has upheld an earlier verbal opinion given to the city of New Albany regarding a requested suspension of a building permit issued to Lehman-Roberts Asphalt Company in June.

    In accordance with statements made by New Albany City Attorney Bobby Carter during an Aug. 5 board of aldermen meeting, the Attorney General's office has issued an official written opinion that the city of New Albany would not have had legal grounds to suspend the permit issued based on evidence given by Carter's office.

    Betsey Hamilton of New Albany has announced her candidacy for the office of mayor of New Albany in next Spring's city elections.

  • Lady Bulldogs remain perfect

    A pleasant surprise for New Albany fans has been the recent play of the girls basketball team. Currently 8-0 with two games until division play, the Lady Bulldogs have performed well with a young team. Their most recent win came at Corinth last Tuesday, 70-60.

    Corinth held a two-point lead after the first quarter, and led by one at the half. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Corinth in the third to take the lead and pick up their eighth win.

  • County school district receives Beacon award for MCT2 performance

    The Union County School District was once again recognized among the top school districts in the state of Mississippi when it was the recipient of the Lighthouse School Leader Beacon Award in late November.

    The award, which the school district has been honored with two out of the past four years, was accepted by Union County Superintendent Ken Basil, School Board President Johnny Rakestraw and board member Dr. James Bryson during the Mississippi School Board Association Fall Leadership Conference in Jackson.

  • Bulldogs improve to 5-1 with win over Senatobia

    Keeping their heads up and remaining positive are just two things that have attributed to New Albany's early success this soccer season. With only one loss so far, the Bulldogs improved to 5-1defeating Senatobia last Tuesday night.

    “We work well together and you never hear any criticism,” head coach Taylor Nichols said. “Whether we score one or eight goals, they keep fighting every game.”

    Karl David Capaning scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs Tuesday night, and he was assisted by Oxiel Ortiz.

  • Bulldogs fall to 3-4, remain positive going into division play

    New Albany was on the road last week before the Thanksgiving holiday, and the Bulldogs fell at Corinth 70-50. Corinth jumped to a 14 point lead after the first frame, and took a 34-19 lead to the half.

    The Bulldogs outscored Corinth in the third, but another 23 by the home team in the fourth gave New Albany their fourth loss of the year.

    Searching for uniformity, head coach Brad Gray is looking for his players to step up and play consistently from game to game.

  • Supervisors approve purchase of new fire truck for Pinedale dept.

    The Pinedale community’s Union County Volunteer Fire Department will be receiving a new fire truck in mid-2009.

    Union County Fire Coordinator Steve Coker came before the Union County Board of Supervisors Monday and received approval on the purchase of a new fire truck.
