  • Union County Schools to survey interest in band, football programs

    There is lots of excitment floating through the air in the Union County School District.  As many of you heard Union County is wanting to provide football and band for the students of Union County.  However, we feel that it is important to have input from the community. Myrtle, West Union, and Ingomar will be having community meetings for parents and students in grades 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th.  Below are the dates and times of the meetings.  Please feel free to come and voice your opinion regarding a football and band program in Union County.

  • New Albany Schools to implement 10-point grading scale next year

    The New Albany Public School Board voted Monday evening to implement a new 10-point grading scale for the 2009-2010 school year.

    The previous grading scale is as follows: A 93-100, B 85-92, C 75-84, D 71-74, and anything below 70 would be an F. The new grading scale will be as follows:  A 90-100, B 80-89, C 70-79, D 60-69, and F will be below 60.   

  • “Sharing at Christmas” $5K short of food funds needed

    With only a week and a half until Christmas, the 2008 "Sharing at Christmas" fund is woefully short of its goal of $25,000.

    As of press time, the fund has received approximately $8,000 in monetary donations, as well as some donations of toys.

    The money that is donated is designated solely for the "Sharing at Christmas" fund.  A large majority of the funds are used by several volunteers to purchase food that will be included in each of the 250  Christmas boxes.

  • NA pulls away from Lafayette

    New Albany head coach John Stroud is use to seeing his team play strong in the second half, so when the Lady Bulldogs jumped to a 15 point lead at the half of their game at Lafayette Monday night, he was happy with his team's performance.

    “We've played great in the third and fourth quarters in the last nine games,” Stroud explained. “It was good to go to the half up 30-15 because we normally don't play as well in the first half.”

  • Potts Camp sweeps West Union in division opener

    Potts Camp 64 West Union 63

    West Union had their opportunities, but could not take advantage of them through out the night as the Lady Eagles dropped their region opener 64-63 to Kenyotta Jenkins and the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals.

    The Lady Cards built a six-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but the Lady Eagles came charging back to make it a one-point game with ten seconds left in the contest.

  • NA cruises past Lafayette, EU and Myrtle pick up wins

    New Albany 60 Lafayette 25

    The Bulldogs gave new meaning to the saying kick them while they're down, as New Albany easily handled the winless Commodores of Lafayette, 60-25 Monday night.

    New Albany opened the game strong, and held the 'Dores scoreless in the first frame, while piling on 15 points, led by Malcolm Spears' two three pointers.

    Spears opened the second with another three, and Lafayette scored their first basket at the 5:10 mark in the second, as a field goal by Demarius Madkins made it 19-3.

  • Myrtle comesback versus Falcons

    Vardaman 77  West Union 60

    Wesley Jumper scored 30 and Luke Wait added 10 as West Union dropped a 77-60 decision to the Vardaman Rams in the boys' consolation game on Saturday.  Sergio Prescott lead Vardaman with 29 points.

  • EU picks up second win, Myrtle goes undefeated in home tourney

    The Lady Eagles' tough summer schedule helped Kimberly Jumper and West Union stay cool, calm, and collected in final seconds of their thrilling 42-41 victory over the North Pontotoc Lady Vikings to claim the championship of the North Pontotoc Invitational Tournament.

  • NAHS defeats Lafayette, improves to 6-1 on the year.

    The Lady Bulldogs improve to 6-1 on the year, as they traveled to Lafayette and defeated the Lady Commodores 4-1 Saturday.

    Stephanie Fernandez had two goals in the winning effort, while Jenna Davis and Randi Stevens scored as well for New Albany.

    Assisting on the goals for the Lady Bulldogs was Callie Creekore with two, Kellie Skinner with one and Fernancez with an assist as well.
