  • Union County Heritage museum changes business hours

    Beginning in January 2009, new hours at the Union County Heritage Museum will be 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday. In addition, this is the final week for the exotic animal exhibit featuring the mounts and animals collected by the late Chico Foote. This exhibit closes Saturday, January10, 2009.

  • Lady Hawks win two in "O-Town Showdown"

    Myrtle and Grenada struggled shooting in the morning game of the O-Town Showdown on Saturday, but the Lady Hawks finally woke up with just over two-minutes left in the third quarter to pull away from the Lady Chargers for a 50-43 win at Oxford High School.

    "Grenada looked like a D1 team with their size and that caused us some problem early," Coach Chris Greer.  "I think our girls finally adjusted to how physical the game was being played towards the end of the third quarter."

  • NAHS goes undefeated in Mooreville Tourney

    New Albany kicked off the second half of their season, as they traveled to Mooreville for the Troopers' Tournament last Friday and Saturday. Both the 'Dawgs and Lady 'Dawgs went 2-0 in the tournament, as John Stroud's Lady Bulldogs are now 14-0 on the season.

    New Albany 65 Belmont 63 (boys)

    Malcom Spears and Adrian Gamble led the way as the Bulldogs returned to the .500 mark after defeating Belmont 65-63 on the first day of the Mooreville Tournament Friday.

  • NAHS soccer facing tough portion of schedule

    New Albany has a tough road ahead of them as they are set to play three matches this week, two of which are in divisional play.  New Albany was in action last week, taking on Senatobia and North Pontotoc.

    The New Albany High School Lady 'Dawgs soccer team closed out the year with a 3-1 win over Senatobia Tuesday evening.

    Estefany Fernandez scored the first two goals for New Albany, with the first off a pass from Jenna Davis.

  • Williamson sharp shooter on and off the court

    Senior guard/forward Amber Williamson has long been known as a sharp shooting threat for the Myrtle Lady Hawks, but her sharp shooting skills are not limited to just the basketball court.

    Earlier in the season Williamson dropped a career-high 32 points on Hickory Flat, but it was her six-point she dropped shortly after the Lady Hawks' 84-67 victory over the Lady Rebels that had her excited about the start of a new season -- deer season that is.

  • NAHS soccer works with champion athletes

    New Albany's boys soccer team had a unique experience last Thursday, as members of Bethel College's soccer teams visited and worked with the team during their practice.

    Felix Obillio, Joseph Omondi, Ugochi Opara and Malang Jarju showed up to the Bulldogs' practice and worked with the team on fundamentals. With their combined experience, their help was greatly appreciated by the team.

  • County schools hold football, band interest meetings

    Parents and students have gathered at each of the county schools to discuss the possibility of adding a football and band program to the county.

    Residents of Myrtle of Ingomar met on December 16, while West Union held their meeting on December 18. Administrators from each school saw the same reaction from parents and students at each of their respective schools.

  • Ingomar swept on the road vs. Cougars

    The Lady Falcons and Falcons will have plenty of motivation to return to the hardwood with a fury after the holiday break after a dropping pair of road loses to 3A South Pontotoc  Friday night.

    South Pontotoc led for much of the first half and by double digits early in the third quarter before Ingomar started chipping away at the lead with a 9-0 run before a Zach Carnell lay-up gave the Falcons a 39-38 lead with 3:40 left in the third quarter.
