  • NAHS soccer works with champion athletes

    New Albany's boys soccer team had a unique experience last Thursday, as members of Bethel College's soccer teams visited and worked with the team during their practice.

    Felix Obillio, Joseph Omondi, Ugochi Opara and Malang Jarju showed up to the Bulldogs' practice and worked with the team on fundamentals. With their combined experience, their help was greatly appreciated by the team.

  • County schools hold football, band interest meetings

    Parents and students have gathered at each of the county schools to discuss the possibility of adding a football and band program to the county.

    Residents of Myrtle of Ingomar met on December 16, while West Union held their meeting on December 18. Administrators from each school saw the same reaction from parents and students at each of their respective schools.

  • Ingomar swept on the road vs. Cougars

    The Lady Falcons and Falcons will have plenty of motivation to return to the hardwood with a fury after the holiday break after a dropping pair of road loses to 3A South Pontotoc  Friday night.

    South Pontotoc led for much of the first half and by double digits early in the third quarter before Ingomar started chipping away at the lead with a 9-0 run before a Zach Carnell lay-up gave the Falcons a 39-38 lead with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

  • Myrtle soars over Lady Eagles, NAHS ladies 12-0

    Myrtle 64 West Union 46 (girls)

    The Lady Hawks dropped 26 points in the first frame, and didn't let up as they defeated West Union in a key divisional match-up 64-46 Friday.

    Aspriona Gilbert was a force down low with 31 points, and the Lady Eagles had no response.

    Down 39-20 at the half, foul trouble allowed West Union to slightly ease back into the game, cutting Myrtle's lead to 15 after three.

    A technical foul to open the fourth gave the momentum back to Myrtle as they went on for the win.

    Claire Wilkerson led West Union with 20.

  • Jumper, Eagles soar past Hatley

    West Union 69 Hatley 57

    The Eagles snapped an eight game losing streak by avenging an early season loss, as West Union defeated Hatley 69-37 Friday night.

    West Union traveled to Hatley three weeks earlier and lost to the Tigers by three. Like the first match-up, the game was close, as the score was tied at 15 after one. Keeping the Eagles in the game early on was Wesley Jumper, who had three three pointers in the first frame, four in the first half to lead the Eagles with 18 at the break.

  • Ingomar continues winning ways, sweep Urchins

    Three different players scored in double digits to help the Lady Falcons to their second straight win with a 61-46 victory over East Union while the Urchins dropped a 56-54 heartbreak in the final seconds to the Falcons.

    Ingomar connected on 8-of-15 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to hang on for a wild two-point win over East Union on Monday night.

  • NA remains unbeaten, Myrtle picks up big win at Oxford

    What started out as a slow game for the Lady Falcons resulted in a big win as Ingomar soared past the Lady Rebels 50-25.

    Maggie Cobb opened the game for the Lady Falcons with a three, as Ingomar built an early 12-8 lead in the first frame. A steal by Shalonda Reynolds followed by a basket by Hannah Wilkerson cut Ingomar's lead to one midway through the second, those were the last points Hickory Flat would score before the half. Shelly Grisham's free throws sent the Lady Falcons to the locker room up six at the half.

  • New Albany shuts out Tish. Co. in district opener, 7-1 on the year

    The Lady Bulldogs' stonewall defense led by Kelsey Hodges, Carley Grisham, Estephanie Fernandez and Randi Stevens, pus goalie Paige Zahller registered their third of four shutouts of the season, as New Albany defeated Tishomingo County in their division opener 6-0 Friday night.

    On the offensive attack for the Lady Dawgs, Kelly Creekmore scored the first goal of the game on a header from a Fernandez corner kick.

    Quickly following that, Shelby Brown converted on another Fernandez corner, giving New Albany the 2-0 advantage.

  • Union County Schools to survey interest in band, football programs

    There is lots of excitment floating through the air in the Union County School District.  As many of you heard Union County is wanting to provide football and band for the students of Union County.  However, we feel that it is important to have input from the community. Myrtle, West Union, and Ingomar will be having community meetings for parents and students in grades 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th.  Below are the dates and times of the meetings.  Please feel free to come and voice your opinion regarding a football and band program in Union County.

  • New Albany Schools to implement 10-point grading scale next year

    The New Albany Public School Board voted Monday evening to implement a new 10-point grading scale for the 2009-2010 school year.

    The previous grading scale is as follows: A 93-100, B 85-92, C 75-84, D 71-74, and anything below 70 would be an F. The new grading scale will be as follows:  A 90-100, B 80-89, C 70-79, D 60-69, and F will be below 60.
