  • Garrison celebrates 2nd birthday

    Jon Everett Garrison celebrated his second birthday on January 3, 2009 at the Neely Baptist Church Fellowship Building. The party had a cowboy theme and many family and friends attended the party. Jon’s parents are Correal and Jonathan Garrison of New Albany. His grandparents are Phillip and Shelia Jones, Paul Lee Garrison and the late Norris Garrison , all of New Albany. His great-grandparents are Sam and Dorothy Nichols of Blue Springs.

  • Spears, Gilbert highlight in-county showdown

    When Myrtle takes the court at New Albany this Friday night, all eyes will be on the play of two individuals in particular. The shocking part about this is that they're also the youngest members of their respective teams.

    Aspriona Gilbert of Myrtle and Jazmine Spears for New Albany have created a lot of buzz so far this season, as both are among the leading scorers and rebounders for their respective teams. Why is this such a surprise? Simple, Gilbert is a freshman for the Lady Hawks, while Spears is only in the 8th grade.

  • NAHS improves to 15-0, Ingomar downs Tremont

    Coldwater 52 West Union 34

    West Union was able to keep up with Coldwater in their first game after the holidays, but a tough defense held the Lady Eagles as they fell 52-34 Tuesday night.

    West Union went into the second frame with a 13-11 advantage, but were unable to score in double digits again until the fourth, as Coldwater held the Lady Eagles to eight points in the second and only three in the third quarter.

    Lanita Futrell led Coldwater on the night with 20 points, followed by Jerantay Clemmons with 11.

  • 'Dawgs, Falcons pick up victories

    New Albany 73 Saltillo 51 (boys)

    The Bulldogs have now won four in a row, as they won on the road versus the Tigers, 73-51.

    New Albany scored the most in the even numbered quarters, as they posted 22 in the second and 23 in the fourth frame to pull away for their eighth win of the year.

    Kareem Brown and Adrian Gamble stepped up for the Bulldogs, as each had 14 on the night, followed by Brandon White with 12 and Cameo Mabry with 11.

    For the Tigers, Trevor Boren scored 15, followed by Tregon Staples with 12.

  • Union County to begin football coach search

    Just as it gave Union County Superintendent Ken Basil authority to begin the search for a band director in the month of December, the Union County School Board gave Basil authority to begin a search for a football coach during January's monthly meeting.

    After deciding to develop an all-county Jr. High football team, with the idea of beginning football practice later this spring, the board gave Basil the go-ahead to find a coach to oversee the development of such a team.

  • NA aldermen approve further payments for Martintown Industrial site construction

    During its first meeting of the new year, the New Albany board of aldermen approved the payment of invoices toward the continuing installation of road, water, sewer and gas lines at the Martintown Industrial Park site, located off Highway 30 West.

    The first invoice concerned the payment to Sherman-based Mendrop-Wages,  LLC, the firm overseeing all construction related to Toyota and the supplier sites for professional services in the amount of $10,347.97.

  • Myrtle looks at purchase of new water tower

    A new water tower for the town of Myrtle is in the talks, as ESI Engineering Solutions were the guest at the January Aldermen meeting, held Tuesday, January 6.

    Mayor Joe Rials and company are interested in placing another tower in town to serve as a back-up in the event of another situation such as the one last month where a leak caused half of the town to be without water, as well as placing a boil water notice in the area.

  • Union County Jail Docket for Jan. 9, 2009

    Johnny Porter, P.O. Box 422, Potts Camp, 46, was charged with a warrant for contempt of court and old fines on Jan. 5, 2009, at 3:35 p.m.

    Amy Willard, 202 Apple St., New Albany, 26, was charged with possession of paraphernalia and petty larceny on Jan. 5, 2009, at 4 p.m.

    Michael J. Harmon, 1446 CR 127, Lot 3, New Albany, 32, was charged with disturbance of family on Jan. 5, 2009, at 8:05 p.m.

    Dana Pittman, 115 Carter St., Blue Mountain, 36, was charged with a warrant for failure to appear in court on Jan. 5, 2009, at 11:13 p.m.
