Just as it gave Union County Superintendent Ken Basil authority to begin the search for a band director in the month of December, the Union County School Board gave Basil authority to begin a search for a football coach during January's monthly meeting.

After deciding to develop an all-county Jr. High football team, with the idea of beginning football practice later this spring, the board gave Basil the go-ahead to find a coach to oversee the development of such a team.

A new water tower for the town of Myrtle is in the talks, as ESI Engineering Solutions were the guest at the January Aldermen meeting, held Tuesday, January 6.

Mayor Joe Rials and company are interested in placing another tower in town to serve as a back-up in the event of another situation such as the one last month where a leak caused half of the town to be without water, as well as placing a boil water notice in the area.

Johnny Porter, P.O. Box 422, Potts Camp, 46, was charged with a warrant for contempt of court and old fines on Jan. 5, 2009, at 3:35 p.m.

Amy Willard, 202 Apple St., New Albany, 26, was charged with possession of paraphernalia and petty larceny on Jan. 5, 2009, at 4 p.m.

Michael J. Harmon, 1446 CR 127, Lot 3, New Albany, 32, was charged with disturbance of family on Jan. 5, 2009, at 8:05 p.m.

Dana Pittman, 115 Carter St., Blue Mountain, 36, was charged with a warrant for failure to appear in court on Jan. 5, 2009, at 11:13 p.m.

A marriage that lasts throughout seven decades is hard to come by these days.  For Magnolia Personal Care Home resident Freddy Stone, however, that was his reality for 72 years and he continues to cherish the memories he had with his wife, Edith.
