  • Supervisors approve agreement on NA/UC airport projects

    During Tuesday's Union County board of supervisors meeting, postponed because of a mid-winter conference in Jackson as well as being closed Monday, Cook Coggins Engineering, Inc. requested reimbursement  for construction completed for a new runway and T-hangar at the New Albany/Union County Airport.

    Girl Scout Cookie Sale

  • Our attitude about poverty

    I recently wrote a column suggesting that as Christians we could a better job finding ways to collectively provide assistance to the least of these among us. The responses were swift and angry. I was accused of distorting the Bible in order to advance a liberal socialist agenda.

         I thought I was just quoting Jesus.

        Then I wrote a column suggesting that the charitable impulse that appears each Christmas is an attitude that should characterize the Christian life year round.

  • The impulse to silence dissent

      The arrest of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on corruption charges drives home the point that political malfeasance is not the sole possession of any one political party. There are those all along the political spectrum who are willing to sell out principle for power and money. Although given the depth and cynicism of Blagojevich’s behavior, if convicted, he may actually give corruption a bad name.

  • A Christmas prayer

         Lord, first of all, thank you for the careful and creative way in which you have designed this world. You have made this planet a marvelous place, filled with life and beauty.  It is a privilege to recognize that we humans are a part of your amazing invention.
