  • County to receive $300k reimbursement for bridge project

    Union County will be reimbursed $343,100 for a Local System Bridge Program (LSBP) project that was completed in April 2008. This is for  LSBP projects 73-15, which had two bridges put across Sand Creek and Okannatie Creek on County Road 108, which are in district three.

  • Donie P. Rakestraw

    Donie P. Rakestraw will celebrate her 100th birthday on February 14, 2009. She is the daughter of Melinda and Zack Pickens. Rakestarw was born February 14, 1909, still lives at home by herself and enjoys crocheting and cooking Sunday dinner. She has outlived all 10 of her brothers and sisters, her two children and husband. Friends and family will attend the birthday celebration.

  • Davis wedding reception to be held Jan. 31

    John and Linda Davis are proud to announce the wedding of their daughter Jennifer Lynn Davis to Joseph Scott Clayton, the son of Larry Clayton and Sheila Ford. The wedding took place on January 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn. The reception will be held at Harmony Baptist Church on January 31, 2009 to celebrate their marriage.

  • Four New Albany Teachers of the Year illustrate dedication to education

    With a combined 100 years of teaching experience and over 200 teachers in the New Albany School district, four teachers were recently honored for Teacher of the Year and one teacher also received the award for District Teacher of the Year.  The teachers that received this honor were: New Albany High School (NAHS) teacher Alicia Robinson, School of Career and Technical Education teacher and District Teacher of the Year Allison Moore, New Albany Elementary School (NAES) teacher Joan Nanney, and New Albany Middle School (NAMS) teacher Ranita Callicutt.

  • Birth of James Chandler Hudson

    Mr. and Mrs. James Hudson of Oxford, Miss. welcomed son James Chandler Hudson into the world on January 9, 2009 in the Special Delivery Services wing at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. He weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces. He was greeted by one sister Chelsey Lee Ann Hudson. James’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alton Brock of New Albany and Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Hudson of Oxford, Miss.

  • Birth of Sadie Elizabeth Childers

    Elizabeth Jade Childers and John Caleb Childers of New Albany welcomed daughter Sadie Elizabeth Childers into the world on December 30, 2008 at 8:42 p.m. at the Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County in New Albany. Sadie weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 ¾ inches long. She was greeted by four-year-old brother John Brady Childers. Sadie’s grandparents are Theresa and John Mark Childers and Patrick and Dianne Pierce, all of New Albany. Her great-grandparents are Ann and Mose Stokes and Sarah and James A.

  • New full service salon Cut-N-Up opens in New Albany

    Cut-N-Up Full Service Salon is now open at 202 Highland Street. Cut-N-Up will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The salon will offer men and women’s haircuts, shampoo and style, perm, straightening, coloring, highlights, manicures and pedicures, acrylic, eyebrow, lip, chin and facial waxing, and other services and freehand nail design and nail art. Walk-ins are welcome. Law enforcement officials get half off.

  • Birthday of Marissa Elise Davis

    Marissa Elise Davis will celebrate her fifth birthday on January 24, 2009. Marissa is the daughter of Megan Davis of New Albany and Jermaine Gray of Racine, Wi. She will have a Tinkerbell party at Chuck E. Cheese and friends and family are invited. Marissa has one sister named Coliee Boyd, who is a one-year-old. Her grandmother is Mary Davis.

  • New Rode'o Salon brings a "sense of glamour" to New Albany

    The Rode’o Salon is now open at 132 West Bankhead Street in the old Hamilton Hardware building.

    Rode’o Salon will be open Monday through Saturdays from 9 a.m. with no designated closing time. The salon will offer men and women’s haircuts, shampoo and style, perm, straightening, coloring, highlights, manicures and pedicures, acrylic, eyebrow, lip and facial waxing, and other services. Walk-ins are welcome.

    “I am bringing a sense of glamour and elegance to New Albany. We offer high-end convenience with a full salon,” said Owner Rita Ladner.

    Madison Grace Brooke Bennett celebrated her first birthday at McAlister’s Deli on December 27, 2008. Madison is the daughter of Cassandra and Larry Bennett of New Albany. Friends and family were invited.
