    Hello there again.  I've had a few questions sent to me, so I thought I would address them first:

    When do you prune a snowball bush?  Personally, I would probably let it grow all it wanted to, but if space is a problem, you can prune it back after it blooms. 

    When do I cut my butterfly bush back?  Go ahead and cut it back to the ground and it will come back.

    When do I prune my crepe myrtles?  Now is the time to do that if you haven't already.

  • Ecru News

    Sympathy is extended to the Pete Robbins family and to the Scott Hill family.  Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

    Ecru Baptist church will sponsor “Children’s Ministry Day”, Saturday, February 14.  The day will begin with a pancake breakfast.

    We want to remember Lois Wilder in our prayers.  She has been so ill for such a long time.  We will continue to pray for her and her family.

    The Baptist Memorial Hospital Union County has a new cookbook out,‘Temptations  Tried and True.” Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. It is really a bargain for $10 plus shipping and I know you will want a copy. Every recipe sounds delicious. Today’s are just a sample of the goodies in this cookbook.

  • Annual Prentiss-Union Clash even match-up for county teams

    Union and Prentiss Counties matched-up over the weekend in the Prentiss-Union Clash in Baldwyn. This year's showdown featured several close games, and in the end, the counties tied the day at 3-3.

    West Union 61 Jumpertown 60

    Wesley Jumper had a slow start, but his herorics in the final seconds gave West Union the 61-60 win over Jumpertown in the opening game of the Prentiss-Union Clash last Saturday.

    Jumper scored 28 in the game, but had a hard time finding his shot early in the game, as West Union found themselves down 29-17 at the half.

    Jewelewe and V. B. Sanders of New Albany celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary February 1, 2009 at Western Sizzlin. Family and friends attended the party. Family members include Jimmy Sanders, Tina Sanders, Tyrone Sanders, Trinity Berry, Tony Sanders, Tykieu Sanders, Terrance Venson Sanders, Torie Sanders, Little Tim Sanders, and Tasmone Sanders.

  • Robertson's Sportswear an overwhelming success

    Saturday's 12th annual Robertson's Sportswear Challenge reminded many in the area that girl's basketball can be just as challenging and exciting as their male counterparts as several Northeast Mississippi teams faced off for a few nailbiters, including Union County's Lady Urchins.

    Briarcrest Christian 55 Itawamba AHS 45

    Itawamba's Noel Prestage connected on her first two shots of the game, but Briarcrest defense proved too much as they held the sharp shooter scoreless for the rest of the contest to pick up the 55-45 victory in the opening game of the day.

  • Myrtle wins two, NAHS drops tough decision at IAHS

    Myrtle 43 Houlka 40 (Thursday)

    The Lady Hawks held the early advantage, but Houlka would give them a scare late in the game, as Myrtle held onfor the 43-40 win Thursday night.

    Myrtle opened a 13-2 lead, as it took Houlka until the final 12 seconds of the quarter to score their first points.

    The Lady Hawks took a 28-9 lead to the half, and Amber Williamson would extend that to 30-9 in the opening seconds of the third.

    After a timeout, a different Houlka squad walked on the court, and Houlka would begin to cut into the lead.

    The NAHS Boys Powerlifting team finished 3rd at the North Pontotoc Invitational recently.  Overall winners were:

  • Elected officials should handle bailout funds

    A major stumbling block in the way of the passage of a federal “bail-out” plan for our country’s ailing economy are the partisan provisions for expenditures having little or nothing to do with restarting the economy. As with previous measures considered for similar purposes, greed and political ambition make up a lot of the motivation for their proposals and passage.
