  • Williams, Spradling to wed February 21

    Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Williams of New Albany, Miss. announce the engagement of their daughter, Erin Rachel Williams, to Cory Blake Spradling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Spradling of Mantachie, Miss.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Jack and Rachel Dowdy and the late Estle and Alta Williams, all of New Albany. She is a graduate of New Albany High School and is currently a student at Itawamba Community College pursuing a Physical Therapy Assistant degree. At ICC she is on the President’s List and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

  • Robertson, Sipes to wed February 28

    Norris Robertson Sr. of Oxford announces the engagement of his daughter, Kathy Robertson of Oxford to T.J. (Terry) Sipes Sr. of Ecru, Miss.

    Kathy is also the daughter of the late Ruth Ellene Denson Robertson, and Terry is the son of the late Albert Merchant and Peggy Merchant of Ashtabula, Ohio.

    Kathy attended West Union Attendance Center and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She is currently employed as the Awana Missionary Office Assistant for the Mississippi and West Tennessee Delta /Bayou Region.

  • Aiden Nunnelee

    Aiden Bryce Nunnelee turned five years old on November 7, 2008. He celebrated with a Star Wars birthday party on November 9, 2008 at his great-grandparents house with family and friends. He is the son of John and Kelly Nunnelee of New Albany. His grandparents are Dwight and Barbara Wood of Blue Springs and Paul and Marla Nunnelee of New Albany. His great-grandparents are Stanley and Janie Mooneyhan of Blue Springs and David and Lynda Coleman of New Albany.

  • Karley Danielle Gullick

    Karley Danielle Gullick turned one year old on January 16, 2009. She celebrated at home with family and friends and her big sister Haiden Brooke Williamson. She is the daughter of Jessica Williamson and Jason Gullick. Her grandparents are Anthony and Melacca Williamson, the late Dean Rodgers, and Rita Valentine. Her great-grandparents are Gene Hutchenson, Jean Hutchenson and Barbara Hall.

  • Birth of Eli Massengill

    Tyler and John Mason DeCanter are pleased to announce the birth of their little brother Eli Cain Massengill, who was born on December 16, 2008 at 8:52 a.m. at Special Delivery Services at the Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.  He weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces and was 18 inches long. Eli is the son of Tina DeCanter and the late Lawrence Cain Massengill, both of Hickory Flat. His grandparents are Debra Abbott and James Shoffner of Potts Camp and Mark and Donna Massengill of Hickory Flat.

  • Birth of Hannah Horton

    Meredith and Andy Horton of Baldwyn welcomed daughter Hannah Grace Horton into the world on December 22, 2008 at 2:39 p.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County in New Albany, Miss. She weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. She was welcomed by her brother Andrew Horton. Hannah is the granddaughter of Joyce Wilson and the late Roy Wilson and the late Bill and Betty Horton. Her great-grandparents are Dorthy Wilson and Doris Hudson Swinford.

  • Union Co. school board discuss band program

    While it did not make a decision regarding the hire of a new band director or beginning a band program this year or next, the Union County School board did entertain a presentation from a retired band director regarding the subject last week.

    Robert Plunkett, a retired band director from Northeast Community College, presented a proposal to the board regarding what would need to be done regarding beginning such a program.

  • Aldermen give extension on Martintown roadway

    The New Albany board of Aldermen approved an deadline extension on the projected finish date for roadway work at the Martintown Industrial site.

    Mike Waters, project manager and engineer for Mendrop-Wages Engineering, made the request to the board last week.

    "We request an extension on the Community Development Block Grant project (CDBG) because we've had some delays on working on the road due to weather and also traffic problems," Waters told the board.

  • Supervisors give 100 days for completion of airport project

    The Union County board of supervisors approved a 100-day timetable Monday for the construction of a a new hangar taxiway at the New Albany-Union County Airport.

    As of February 4, 2009, WG Construction will have 100 days to complete the construction work.  The hangar taxiway is slated to be completed by May 15, 2009. Another future project will be the construction of a new hangar at the airport.

    Roland Humphrey, engineer for Cook Coggins Engineering, Inc. - the company in charge of overseeing the project - made the request.

  • Robbins makes three in mayoral race

    When the May 5 party primary elections roll around, citizens of New Albany will now have the choice of three candidates for New Albany Mayor.

    Joey Robbins qualified with the New Albany Circuit Clerk on Monday to run for the office.

    Robbins will face incumbent Tim Kent as well as Betsey Hamilton in the primary elections.
