The Senator from the State of Maryland, Barbara Mikulski, a Democrat who sponsored legislation within the Stimulus Bill to bail out General Motors and Chrysler, recently advised, “No matter how much government aid we give to the Big Three auto makers, they can’t survive if consumers don’t start buying cars.” It would be hard to disagree with her statement, but she demonstrates in those remarks, a basic misunderstanding of the issue at its core.

Vickie Lynne' celebrated her sixth birthday on January 10, 2009 at her home. Victoria Lynne' Jennings is the daughter of Serina and William Jennings of Etta. Vickie is the sister of 3-year-old Mikel Jennings. She is the granddaughter of Val and Bob Johns of Palatka, Fla., Terry Tullis of Myrtle, Miss., Grover and Heidi Jennings of New Albany, Miss. and Charlotte Jennings of Box Elder, SD. She is the great-granddaughter of Freda Smith of Rapid City, SD. The theme for her party was Winter Wonderland and family and friends were invited.

West Union 42 Ashland 29 (girls)

Despite hitting a rough patch this season in division play, the Lady Eagles redeemed themselves, taking third place in division 3-1A after defeating Ashland 42-29. The Lady Eagles made it to Friday night’s consolation game after defeating Potts Camp 48-45 Thursday night.

“It’s a big relief,” West Union head coach Andy Kirk said. “We started off real fast this season and we kind of dropped off in division play. This is one of the toughest divisions in the state.”
