  • Automatic pay raises and differences of opinion

    Last month the Congress of these United States automatically gave themselves a raise in pay. This increase amounted to $4,700 per year, bringing their annual salaries to $174,000 for all 535 House and Senate members, costing taxpayers more than $2.5 million. This was a 2.8 per cent increase while millions of Americans have lost their jobs and are barely surviving on unemployment.

  • Birth of Jordan MaKenzie Kimmons

    Bettye Johnson and Justin Kimmons of New Albany welcomed their baby girl Jordan MaKenzie Kimmons into the world on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at North Mississippi Medical Center Women's Hospital in Tupelo at 4:54 p.m. She weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19 ½ inches long. She was greeted home by big sister Justis Breanna Kimmons. Jordan's grandparents are Janetta Cooper and Samuel Carter Sr. of Detroit, Mich., Audrey Kimmons of Bradley and Keith Mosley of New Albany. She is the great-granddaughter of Leo and Winnie Kimmons of New Albany.

  • Birth of Zoe Mary-Klare King

    Wendy Kidd King and Chad King of Hickory Flat welcomed daughter Zoe Mary-Klare King into the world on January 17, 2009 at 5:14 p.m. at the Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County in New Albany. She weighed 6 pounds and was 18 inches long. Zoe is the granddaughter of Pam Kidd and Charlie Canerdy of New Harmony, Chuck and Lou Ann Kidd of Ellistown, Charlie and Tina McCollum of Verona, and Perry King of Hickory Flat. Her great-grandparents are Christine and the late Floyce Gaines of New Harmony, Carolyn Adams of New Albany, the late James (Billy) Kidd of New Albany, Bro.

  • Birth of Hunter Nathaniel Rasco

    Brittney Page Rasco and Gary Nathaniel Rasco of New Albany are proud to announce the birth of their son Hunter Nathaniel Rasco. Hunter was born on January 28, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County. He weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces and was 18 inches long.

    His grandparents are Jimmy and Linda Page of New Albany, Steve and Nora Keasler of Ingomar, and the late Gary Lee Rasco of New Albany.

  • Birthdays of Madison Elizabeth and Mason Kirk Green

    Madison Elizabeth and Mason Kirk Green celebrated their third birthday with a pirate and princess party at West Jackson Baptist Church in Tupelo. Their parents are Jamie and Kirk Green of Saltillo. Their grandparents are Jane Gadd, Tommy Gadd, Kim and Jay McKee and Sammy and Tina Green. Their great-grandparents are Delma Dismuke, Madge Curbow and Annis Curtis. Their great-great-grandmother is Ruth Miller.

     

  • Birthday of Lacey Marie Jackson

    Lacey Marie Jackson celebrated her third birthday on January 4, 2009. She celebrated on January 24th with a party at home with family and friends. Helping her celebrate was her big sister Destiny who turned 9 years old on January 15, 2009. She is the daughter of Jeff and Beverly Jackson. Her grandparents are Peggy Smith, Cecil and Linda Smith and John and Linda Taylor. Her great grandmothers are Mattie Mayo and Virgina Hargett.

     

  • Auto industry must make some sacrifices too

    The Senator from the State of Maryland, Barbara Mikulski, a Democrat who sponsored legislation within the Stimulus Bill to bail out General Motors and Chrysler, recently advised, “No matter how much government aid we give to the Big Three auto makers, they can’t survive if consumers don’t start buying cars.” It would be hard to disagree with her statement, but she demonstrates in those remarks, a basic misunderstanding of the issue at its core.

  • Birthday of Jewell Drummond

    Jewell Drummond celebrated her 93rd birthday on December 19, 2008 with her family. She has three children: Gail Freeman (Devon) of New Albany, Gilbert Drummond of Pickwick, and Marie Warrington (Mike) of Cotton Plant. She has seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She is the widow of the late Lewis Drummond.

     

  • Birthday of Victoria Lynne' Jennings

    Vickie Lynne' celebrated her sixth birthday on January 10, 2009 at her home. Victoria Lynne' Jennings is the daughter of Serina and William Jennings of Etta. Vickie is the sister of 3-year-old Mikel Jennings. She is the granddaughter of Val and Bob Johns of Palatka, Fla., Terry Tullis of Myrtle, Miss., Grover and Heidi Jennings of New Albany, Miss. and Charlotte Jennings of Box Elder, SD. She is the great-granddaughter of Freda Smith of Rapid City, SD. The theme for her party was Winter Wonderland and family and friends were invited.

     

  • Birthday of Christopher “Bubba” Watson

    Christopher “Bubba” Watson will celebrate his fifth birthday on February 23, 2009 with a Power Rangers party at Chuck E. Cheese. Bubba is the son of Chris and Liz Watson of Ripley. Bubba is the grandson of Billy and Tony Doss. His great-grandparents are Leo and Rachel Dyson, Jean and the late Joe Dale Thompson, all of New Albany. Bubba attends UAC Kiddie Academy and has one big sister named Jasmine.
