  • Ellistown Breezes

    Deepest sympathy to the family of Kathy McMillan who was buried last Tuesday.  She was the mother of our youth director, Brother Chad Roberts.  Our prayers are  with Brother Chad and his family.  We also extend deepest sympathy to the families of Curtis Fooshee, Charlie Hill, Davis Jones, Dorothy Gullett and Christine Gaines.  Mrs. Gaines was the Mother of Dianne Sprouse, who is a friend of my step-daughter, Patsy.  I, too, know Dianne and knew her mother.  Mrs.

  • The Dinner Bell

    Today’s are just old favorites I used to have often, but I had sort of forgotten them.They taste as good as they did.

     

    SWEET POTATO

    BREAD

     

    1 cup margarine, softened

    3 cups sugar

    3 eggs

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    baked and mashed sweet

    potatoes to equal 2 cups

    3 cups all-purpose flour

    1 ½ teaspoons salt

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1 ½ teaspoon baking

    powder

    1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

    1 teaspoons cloves

  • Eastern Lights

    I would like to thank all of you for the nice compliments I have heard about the Eastern Lights.

    A special hello to the senior citizens and especially Ola Messer, Valeria Kelly, Mae Etta Hill, Toy Hogue and Ruth Hardy.  Senior citizens are a special people and you can learn a lot from them.

    Loretta Easley visited Michelle and Josie Foster Wednesday.  Josie is some better, but still coughing a lot.

    The blue sky and the sunshine are nice today even if it is a little chilly. The temperature is above freezing but still is a little cold.

    Shirley Shirley went to the doctor Friday, February 13th. They ran tests all day but did give her a break for her and James to go get some lunch. She even had to do a treadmill stress test before she got to come home. She was supposed to find out the results on Tuesday.

    Gary and Nancy Rhea have been sick. Gary is better but Nancy was still sick Saturday. Nancy has been to the doctor twice and is still coughing terribly.

    The West Union baseball team and their coaches were our guests for the Sunday morning service.

    Brother Gerald was back after missing last Sunday because of the “crud.”

    Before Brother Bobby preached, Mary McCormick also brought a message in song.

    At the close of the morning service, Russ Heard, Michelle Grubbs and Aaron Turner joined our church family.

    Tiffany Moore was all smiles Sunday as she showed everyone the lovely engagement ring that Russ had given her.

    If you plan to qualify for the upcoming municipal election this spring, time is running out.  The deadline to qualify in Sherman is Friday, March 6, by 5 p.m.  So far, Ann Simmons has qualified to run for alderman. Sherman will not have a primary election, and the general election is June 2.

    Sherman is managed by a mayor/alderman form of government.  All five alderman are “at large” and do not have wards.

    Brotherhood was held Sunday, February 22, at Tri-County Baptist Church with Michael Edwards as the guest speaker.

    I get a lesson from looking out my window at the old dead looking pear limbs with the fresh “parasites I call it” that was completely dead in appearance before the rain came.  How it came alive was so pretty and fresh all over the old limbs after the rain.  How quickly it came alive’ I thought do we in our association with others make a refreshing glow in their lives just as the rain did the parasite growth on the old limbs.  It may not be a shower of rain but just a shower of good deeds and maybe an encouraging words and the source from where it came from,

    The New Albany Garden Club (NAGC) met February 12, 2009 in the home of Beth Prater with 25 members, one associate member, and two guests present. President Betty Campbell called the meeting to order. She thanked Mrs. Prater and co-hostesses Mrs. Bethany Dalton and Mrs. J.J. Harris. She also expressed appreciation to Mrs. Lynn Madden for the lovely Valentine arrangement.

    Mrs. Myra Langley presented a thoughtful devotional on heart health based on Proverbs 3:5.

    Today’s recipes are from  “Best of the Best from Mississippi” cookbook, published by Quail Ridge press in Brandon, MS. editors Gwen Mckee and Barbara Mosely. These ladies have visited every state and published a cookbook from each one. At one time I owned that entire set, but when the column stopped I donated them to the local library.  But of course I had to keep my own state’s cookbook.
