Hello again Hawk fans. The Myrtle Hawks and Lady Hawks basketball teams are both on a winning streak, baseball is finally here, and state testing will begin soon.

The Lady Hawks defeated Shelby Broad Street and Shaw in the North Half Tournament going to state in 2nd place. Monday they played in their 1st game at the state tournament and won. They defeated the Thomastown Bulldogs with freshman Aspriona Gilbert scoring a career high 36 points, and they will play McAdams tonight in Jackson at 6:30.

     Much to the dismay of elderly and disabled Mississippians, legislation designed to alleviate some of their tax burdens died a quick death in the Ways and Means Committee of the House of Representatives. The Chairman of that committee said he had too many questions about what he referred to as a complex local tax issue, despite the fact it the legislation has already been passed by the State Senate.

East Union traveled to Ackerman on Saturday, where they fell to East Webster 19-1.

The Urchins had a 10-0 victory over Walnut Thursday night, as Casey McBrayer only allowed one hit in the game.

That same defense could not be found against East Webster, as they mounted 21 hits in the game to the Urchins 3. East Union also fell to Ackerman on Saturday, 15-1.

"We've been playing good, we're just not swinging the bats like we should right now. We're lucky to be 6-4 right now," Urchins head coach Chris Basil said.

Savannah Alexander picked up her third win of the year, as East Union improved to 5-0 with the 7-1 win over the Lady Rebels Friday night.

Behind Stephanie Dillard's three hits and a homerun by Sunnie Knighton, the Lady Urchins found their offense late in the game, posting all seven runs in the final three innings.

East Union had 13 hits on the day, while Alexander only allowed one hit while striking out 13.
