  • Ingomar downs Smithville behind Hodges' 16 strikeouts

    Senior Josh Hodges pitched four scoreless innings and struck out 16 Seminole batters in the Flacons 14-4 division win in six innings over Smithville. 

    Ingomar broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the third off three hits and one error before adding four more runs on four hits in the fourth.

    John Logan reached on an one-out double in the fifth and came around to score to give the Falcons 11-0 lead in the fifth, but things got sloppy for the Falcons when the Seminoles plated three runs off three errors to extend the game into the sixth inning.

  • EU remains undefeated, NAHS/Myrtle participate in Tupelo Jamboree

    Savannah Alexander picked up her third win of the year, as East Union improved to 5-0 with the 7-1 win over the Lady Rebels Friday night.

    Behind Stephanie Dillard's three hits and a homerun by Sunnie Knighton, the Lady Urchins found their offense late in the game, posting all seven runs in the final three innings.

    East Union had 13 hits on the day, while Alexander only allowed one hit while striking out 13.

  • NAHS opens 2009 golf campaign

    NAHS started their 2009 golf campaign March 5 at the Oaks Country Club. The Bulldogs finished 2nd and 4th in boys action, while the girls picked up a first place finish.

    The varsity boys picked up 2nd place with a team score of 166.

    Austin Holt, Laden Stanford, Peyton Dunlap  and Sam Cooper all scored a 42, while Tucker Holmes  shot 40.

    New Albany's JV squad finished 4th with a team score of 177.

    Blake Conlee led with a 38, followed by Sam Jackson Dunnam 48, Holt Garrett 44, Ryne Stanford 47, Joseph King 50, Cody Cissim 51 andCaleb Mitchell 52.

  • Myrtle falls 73-71 in 1A State Championship

     Despite several key runs throughout the second half, the Hawks were unable to complete the comeback, falling to Coldwater 73-71 in Jackson. Jimel Judon led Myrtle with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Beau Cummings and Justin Jordan each added 15 and David Wilson 13.

  • New Albany to improve parts of Carter, Bankhead

    The New Albany board of alderman Tuesday night voted to use its first round of Stimulus Package money to correct a drainage problem on Carter Avenue, as well as overlay new asphalt on sections of Bankhead and Carter.

    New Albany Mayor Tim Kent told the board that the city would receive $287,000 from the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) to use for the roadwork.

  • Kennamore to run for NA Mayor

    Jerry Kennamore of 101 Meadow Lane recently qualified to run for the Mayoral seat in the upcoming New Albany city elections and has now officially announced his candidacy.

    Kennamore previously served as Alderman of Ward 2 from 1989-1993 and Alderman of Ward 4 from 1997-2001.  He is reportedly the city’s only alderman ever to be elected from two different wards.  He also ran for mayor in both 2001 and 2005.

  • New Albany School Board Meeting

    The New Albany School Board meeting began with New Albany Mayor Tim Kent administering the oath of office to Board Member Mr. Bobby Gault.

    Gault was reappointed for five years on the board. He was appointed by the city of New Albany Board of Aldermen. He has been reappointed six times and this year begins his 33rd year. Gault is a New Albany school board member and a member on the state school board.

  • Ribbon Cutting

    A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Blue Springs's new clothing store “Experienced Clothing and Accessories.” It is located in the old Rose Anthony Arts and Pottery building at 1183 Hwy 9 South. The store sells used and new clothes for the entire family, jewelry, purses, shoes, and pottery. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday.

  • James Boyd Mattox Jr. retires from BNA Bank Board of Directors

    A retirement ceremony was held in the honor of Mr. James Boyd Mattox, Jr. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Magnolia Room at the Magnolia Civic Center. Mattox is retiring from the BNA Bank Board of Directors. He worked for BNA Bank from 1979-2008. Mattox is a former co-owner of the New Albany Sales Co., also known as the Sale Barn, where he was in charge of horse and cattle sales and horse and cattle auctions.   • West Union "Promote the Vote"

    Sam Sanders, a 5th grade student from West Union Attendance Center, won first place in the state in Mississippi‘s  “Promote the Vote” art contest for Grades 3-5.  The “Promote the Vote” is an award winning program sponsored by the Secretary of State’s Office.  Sam’s artwork expressed his patriotism and depicted civic responsibility and voter participation.
