  • Colin Allen Hogue turned two years old.

    Colin Allen Hogue recently celebrate his second birthday on December 11, 2008. He is the son of Candy and Brandon Hogue of New Albany. The theme for his party was Spongebob Squarepants and was held in his home. Family and friends attended the party. He has one brother named Mason and one sister named Hailey. Colin is the grandson of David and Reta Allred of New Albany and Wayne and Susan Hogue of Blue Springs. He is the great-grandson of Mable Rakestraw of New Albany, Dessie Allred of New Albany, Shelby Gullick of Blue Springs and Pat Smith of Tennessee.

  • Irene Read turned 90 years old.

    Irene Read of Mound City celebrated her 90th birthday with five generations of her family at her son Jim's home in Algoma. Irene Read is in the center. Pictured from left to right: Jim Reed, son; Addie Reed, great-great granddaughter; Robert Reed, great-grandson; Steve Reed, grandson.

     

  • Robert Mason McNeely was born on February 17, 2009.

    Stephanie and Robert McNeely of Cotton Plant welcomed son Robert Mason McNeely into the world on February 17, 2009 at 10:47 a.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center Women's Hospital in Tupelo, Miss. He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19 ½ inches long. Mason is the grandson of Steve and Angela Stokes of Blue Mountain, Dottie and Kenny Bishop of North Haven and Bruce and Carol McNeely of New Albany.

  • The Pannells to hold reception March 22, 2009.

    Pamela Danielle Robertson and Jason Stephen Pannell of New Albany were united in marriage on January 23, 2009 in Savannah, Tenn. Pamela is the daughter of Danny and Sara Robertson of New Albany and is the granddaughter of James and Lorene Tollison, Julia Robertson and the late Roy Robertson. Jason is the son of Janny and Dwayne Pannell of the Jacinto community and he is the grandson of the late Ottis and Alma Stevens and the late Dee and Nettie Pannell. The shower will be held on March 22, 2009 at 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church CAC Building in Union County.

  • Walker Reaves Harkness turned one.

    Walker Reaves Harkness recently celebrated his first birthday on December 28, 2008. He is the son of Lea Reaves of New Albany and Brandon Harkness of Etta. Walker has one brother named Mason Lee Tate. He is the grandson of Tina and Bryan Harkness, Wanda Reaves, and Jimmy and Rhonda Reaves. His great-grandparents are Charles and Martha Shettles, Donnis and Sybil Harkness, Pam Harkness, Verna and Roy Reaves, Eva Crawley and the late Charles Crawley. The birthday party was celebrated by family and friends at West Tallahatchie Church.

     

  • Coldwater outlasts Hawks

    Despite several runs in the second half, the Hawks were unable to defeat Coldwater for the second time in a row, as they lost 73-71 in the 1A State Championship Thursday night.

    After watching the Cougars miss both free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining, the Hawks had an opportunity for one final play to try to tie or win, but a broken play is all Myrtle would have after the timeout, as they lost for the second time in three years for a state title.

  • Charity needs greater during poor economy

       One of the really bad effects of an economy experiencing a downturn such as the one we are in today, are the choices many people have to make with their money. Unfortunately, in order to survive, lots of people who are good stewards of their churches and charity in general, cease to make contributions, though their concern for others has not ceased.

  • Taylor's bat sparks Lady Falcons' hot play

    Haley Taylor is getting comfortable with her new role as the designated batter for the Lady Falcon softball team.

    The senior struggled with being moved to the designated batter spot during the Tupelo Softball Association Jamboree, but once she adjusted to change the Lady Falcons have reaped the benefits of her hot bat by winning three out of their last four games.

    Taylor is currently batting .476 on the season after going 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run to help lead Ingomar (4-4, 1-0) over the Hickory Flat Lady Rebels 14-0 in five innings on Tuesday.

  • WU takes double- header vs. Coldwater

    Danielle Taylor had eight strikeouts, as the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Cougars in three innings.

    Jumper and Stephanie Hall both had doubles, while Jumper, along with Carley and Claire Wilkerson all had homeruns.

    West Union 21

    Coldwater 0 (Game 2)

    The Lady Eagles saw similar results in game two of their doubleheader versus the Lady Cougars, as West Union won in only three innings of play.

  • NAHS finishes first and second in golf

    NAHS recently competed in a five-team match at Oaks Country Club. Complete results are as follows:

    New Albany 1st 156- Austin Holt 38, Laden Stanford 39, Tucker Holmes 37, Peyton Dunlap 49, and Sam Cooper 42.

    Amory 2nd 157- Dane Christensen 34, Barrett Edens 36, Will Thompson 43, Mitchell Baxter 44, and Drake Avery 50.

    Center Hill 175 3rd- Justin Jones 42, Garrett Jones 43, Blair Johnston 44, Nick Kennedy 46, and Austin Merryman 58.
