    New Albany's tennis teams started their 2009 season earlier this month with matches verses Tupelo, Cornith and Shannon. Below are the results.

  • Mistakes help Bulldogs pick up division win

    The Bulldogs took advantage of late mistakes by the Red Raiders, taking the 6-1 win on Wednesday.

    Tied at one in the sixth, Joshua Googe was the first on base after being hit by a pitch. Tyler Basil advanced Googe on a sac bunt, then Easton Hall made his way on base after hitting a single. Drew Dodds was intentionally walked, loading the bases, and after a balk was called, Basil scored, giving the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead.

  • West Union, Myrtle compete in Florida for spring break

    Myrtle 15 Arnold (Fla.) 9

    The Hawks pounded out 15 runs on 21 hits versus Arnold on Tuesday, picking up the six-point win.

    Beau Cummings earned the win on the bump for Myrtle, while Justin Jordan paced the offense with four hits.

    Arnold held the 2-1 advantage after the first frame before Myrtle took the lead with three runs in the top half of the second.

    Up 15-2 in the sixth, Arnold would tack on four more runs to close the gap.

  • Nathan Colt Chism turns three.

    Nathan Colt Chism celebrated his third birthday on February 14, 2009 at Chuck-E-Cheese. His actual birthday was February 15, 2009. The theme for his party was dump trucks and family and friends were invited. Nathan is the son of Angela and Brian Chism of New Albany. He has two brothers named Ryan and Kaleb. He is the grandson of Bill and Doris Chism and Bobby and Joyce Robbins.

  • Falcons soar, EU falls short

    Belmont 3 East Union 2

    The Urchins dropped a 3-2 decision Monday despite outhitting Belmont.

    Craig Bullock picked up his first loss of the season, as he gave up six hits to the Cardinals. Belmont loaded the bases in the top of the first inning with no outs, but East Union's defense managed to make it through the inning only giving up one run.

    Down 2-1 in the fourth, East Union got on the board to cut the deficit to one, only to have the Cardinals  respond in the fifth, with both teams added a run in that inning.

  • Eagles, Urchins advance to state bowling championship

    West Union's boys and girls picked up first place finishes at the District Bowling Tournament in Tupelo on March 7th.

    West Union and East Union  competed against other 1-3A schools, plus Pontotoc and Cleveland and after finishing  in the top six, both will now move on to the State Bowling Tournament in Jackson.

    Brandon Scott led the Eagles in the match, bowling a 846, while freshman Austin Speck bowled an 803.

    The top two finishers for the girls were Jessica Clark with a 572 and Jenna Nolley with a 557.

  • Online records become online inaccessible

          Recently, an Alabama newspaper editorialized that, “Mississippi can and should do better than rank last among U.S. states for putting government information on line.” While the newspaper is absolutely correct, it is sad that this statement of truth must come from an out-of-state publication and not be championed by a newspaper  or member of the media inside the State of Mississippi.
