  • Experiencing the state bowling championships

    Last Friday, I was engulfed in a an intense atmosphere. Partially because of what was taking place at Paradise Lanes....and partially because we were all crammed into the small bowling alley.
    Regardless, last week was my first experience at the state bowling championships. Normally this is a time I’m tied up at basketball games, but since the opportunity presented itself, I made the trip early Friday morning to watch five of our teams battle for a state title.

    Union County, home to a few exceptional swimmers with Olympic spirit, had three compete in the Mississippi Swimming Short Course State Championship,  Feb. 21-24.

  • New Albany track prepares to host first meet

    It has been four years since New Albany has last hosted a track meet at the high school, but that will change next Thursday, March 6, when the school hosts a five-team invitational at the newly renovated track at Kitchens’ Field.
    Head track coach Rolandus Cox talked about the excitement surrounding the event, which will feature his team, along with East Union, Myrtle, Tupelo Christian Prep and Ripley.

    Customer service isn’t what it used to be, or is it? Well, yes and no based on our experiences last week. Saturday, my wife, son Joe and I drove to Tupelo to run a couple of errands.

  • East Union takes second at state

    JACKSON -- A few pins separated East Union from another state championship for the school, but the Urchins and Lady Urchins had a great showing in Jackson, both reaching the finals for Class I last Friday.

  • Bulldogs' season ends at Corinth

    The Bulldogs season came to an end at Corinth in the 4A north half tournament last Thursday.
    New Albany, led by eight points from Jarel Lipsey, fell to the home team Warriors, 64-38.
    The Warriors held a six point lead after the first quarter, 21-16, and defensively were able to hold the Bulldogs to single digit scoring in each quarter for the remainder of the game.
    Raheem Sorrell led the Warriors with 18 points, followed Jazz Garner with 10 points.

  • Lions end Ingomar's season

    The Falcons had the effort, but Biggersville made a few more plays in the 1A north half showdown last Thursday, resulting in a 70-62 win for the Lions.
