Residents of Union County’s 3rd and 4th districts who wish to run for the position of school board member for the Union County School District have two and a half more weeks to throw their hats into the ring.

According to Phyllis Stanford, the county’s Circuit Clerk, the qualifying period for these two offices runs from Wednesday, Aug. 8 to Friday, Sept. 7.

At Monday morning’s county board of supervisors meeting, the board approved to enter into an agreement between Union County and the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society.

According to the new state obesity rates released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity in the nation.    

In a recent 3-2 vote, the New Albany Board of Aldermen voted to change its rules on the types of beer that may be sold within the city limits.

Alderman At-Large Scott Dunnam, Ward One Alderman Jeff Olson and Ward Three Alderman Tommie Beasley voted to change the limit on the amount of alcohol in beer sold here from five percent to eight percent.
