Bucky Covington to headline RiverFest

Former American Idol contestant and rising country star, Bucky Covington, will be the headliner of this year’s Tallahatchie RiverFest, set for Sept. 21 and 22 in downtown New Albany.

Born Nov. 8, 1977 in Rockingham, N.C., Covington taught himself to play guitar and began performing a hybrid of rock and country songs in clubs at 18 years of age.

West Nile virus infections set record numbers

As of Aug. 22, there are 82 people in various counties in Mississippi that have been affected with West Nile virus, combining with five other states to make 2012 one of the worst years for the disease.

Scams on the rise, officials say

There are many types of scams that happen to unsuspecting people on a daily basis. Phone scams, identity theft scams, door-to-door scams, mail scams, and more are very commonplace.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards says his department has seen an increase in the number of residents who have been victims of scams in recent years, using advancing technology.

Three Rivers Planning And Development District recognized for CodeRED system

Three Rivers Planning and Development District, in partnership with Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc and Union counties’ Boards of Supervisors, has received a 2012 Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for the implementation of the CodeRed Weather Alert System.

Saturday is last day of the year for Biscuits and Jam farmers’ market

The last official day of the Biscuits and Jam Farmers’ Market for 2012 will be this Saturday, Aug. 25.
