In an effort to curb the number of accidents occuring on a six-mile section of Highway 78 currently under construction in New Albany, the Mississippi Department of Transportation has closed one entrance ramp to the highway.

 Fugitive Adam Mayes died while en route to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County on Thursday, and the missing Tennessee girls are alive and safe.

Daniel McMullen, the FBI special agent in charge for Mississippi, confirmed Mayes' death while speaking outside of Zion Hill Church in Alpine, where Mayes and 12 year-old Alexandria Bain and 8 year-old Kyliyah Bain were found nearby just hours earlier.

The wife and mother of a suspect wanted for the kidnapping of a Hardeman County, Tenn. mother and three daughters, have been arrested in connection with their disappearance, according to a court clerk.

Teresa Mayes, 30, and Mary Frances Mayes, 65, both of 1373 Highway 9 N., face charges of "especially aggravated kidnapping" in connection with the disappearance of Jo Ann, Adrienne, Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain of Hardeman County, Tenn.

The New Albany Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to move ahead on a proposal to add two production wells, create a pressure zone on the east side of the city and begin replacing 100-year-old piping in the north part of the city as part of improving the city’s water system.
