  • Baptist UC awarded Gold Seal accreditation from surveyors

    Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with its national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals.

    Baptist Union County underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey in May. 

  • Settlement received for No Call Law against Diabetic Resource Group

    Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced today that the Mississippi Public Service Commission has received $6,000 from a settlement regarding alleged violations of the No Call Law by Diabetic Resource Group of Arizona.  

    The settlements paid were related to investigatory costs involving complaints the PSC received.

    Presley said the Commision is commited to stopping the solicitations which are a nuisance and an invasion of consumer’s privace.  

  • Presley warns consumers of debit card scam calls

    Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley warned Mississippi consumers today of a series of scam calls claiming to be Bancorpsouth, Renesant Bank, and Community Bank, asking customers to either validate or re-instate their debit cards. 

     Presley said his office contacted officials with the banks and verified that the calls were indeed a scam.

  • Registration deadline coming soon for landlords

    Effective July 2, landlords who own rental property with the city limits of New Albany will be required to register under a program that will require purchasing permits and inspections that will occur every two years.

  • New electric rate structure approved

    The City of New Albany is changing the way it buys electricity, in order to keep customer costs the same.

    The New Albany Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to accept a recommendation by New Albany Light, Gas and Water Manager Bill Mattox to apply a modified time of use rate structure through its power suppler, Tennessee Valley Authority.

  • Funeral arrangements set for Tay Elliott

    Funeral arrangements have been made for former New Albany High School football star  Tainarien Mykale (Tay) Elliott. 

    Elliot’s body was discovered around 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 4,  approximately 300 yards from the waters where he went missing Monday afternoon, according to Panama City Beach Police.

  • Construction on 80 more units to begin at Park Place apartments

    Construction is expected to begin in August on the next 80 units of Park Place Apartments on Bratton Road in New Albany.

    John Young, local builder and developer, said financing arrangements have been completed and site preparation dirt work should be underway in five or six weeks.

  • NA park director dismissed

    The New Albany Park Commission director has been dismissed amid a management restructuring at BNA Bank Park.

    Kevin Crawford’s last day of work was Friday at the recently expanded sportsplex that now includes 10 baseball fields, five soccer fields, a tennis complex and a children’s spray park.

  • Body of missing New Albany man found

    The body of a missing New Albany man was found Wednesday morning.

    According to Panama City beach Police, a woman discovered the body of Tainarien "Tay" Elliot, 24, of New Albany around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.  Officials say the location where he was found is approximately 300 yards from where he went missing Monday afternoon.

  • Coast Guard searches for missing New Albany man

    The United States Coast Guard and authorities of Panama City, Fla. are continuing their search for a New Albany man who went missing Monday afternoon off the beach.

    According to Panama City beach Police, Tay Elliot, 24, of New Albany, went missing in the waters after attempting the rescue of his cousin, Mario Waldrop, 19, also of New Albany.
