The sale of liquors and wine of more than five percent of alcohol by weight will become legal in the city of New Albany on June 6.

Mayor Tim Kent won a third four-year term as New Albany mayor Tuesday, turning back a challenge from Bill Robertson.

The majority of voters in New Albany voted Tuesday to approve a measure that will allow the sale of wine and spirits within the city limits.

One thousand twelve hundred and seventeen of the city's voters, or 57 percent, approved the measure, while 910 residents, or 43 percent, voted against it.

At a specially called meeting in Jackson Monday, the New Albany School District’s board of Trustees approved a $2.8 million-dollar project to upgrade the energy efficiency of its heating and cooling systems, as well as lighting at all of its schools.
