Gifted Art students at New Albany Middle School are altering books, recreating art masterpieces, building Picasso head through cubism, Dale Chihuly designs, painting still life, drawing, and are always finding more ways to express their creativity through artistic expression.

For some teachers, teaching is just a job and school is a place to go every day. But for others, teaching is a passion and learning is a lifelong journey. This is true of East Union’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Wanda Owen.

The crane is a powerful symbol of hope and recovery in Japanese culture, so first and second graders at East Union Attendance Center are making 1,000 “Cranes of Hope” to be sold to help the families in Japan that were affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

New Albany School District Teachers of the Year were presented with plaques of appreciation at the last New Albany School Board meeting.
