Enrollment underway at ICC for free Jobs4U/C2C training classes

Enrollment is under way at Itawamba Community College for free Jobs4U/C2C five-week training classes at area WIN Job Centers.

Classes begin Aug. 13 and Sept. 17 at Belden, Aug. 20 at Amory, Aug. 27 at Pontotoc and Sept. 4 at Houston.

Northeast Continuing Education to offer ACT computerized tutoring class this summer

Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Continuing Education Department has announced that they will be offering a ACT computer based class on Monday, July 23 to help in preparing for the exam.

This computer based highlight program class will complete computerized tutorial’s of identified skill areas, test taking tips and exam strategies.

ICC event set July 24

A Connection Day/adult orientation session is scheduled for July 24 from 4-7 p.m. in the Student Services Building at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus (2176 South Eason Blvd.).

The session is designed for adult students to become familiar with ICC and sign up for fall semester classes.

New immunization required for seventh graders in 2012-2013 school year

The Mississippi State Department of Health will require the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccination for all students entering 7th grade beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, has increased in frequency across the country in recent years, as protection from the childhood pertussis vaccine has become weaker over time in the adolescent population.

NA School Board discusses personnel and other concerns at July meeting

Jackie Ford, interim superintendent for the New Albany School District, said he has four expectations from employees within the district.

“My expectations are these: Be on time, do your job, dream, and don’t complain or gripe. Excuses are an example of poor planning. I think we have an excellent administrative team to lead this district,” said Ford.

At the board meeting held July 2, the board approved items in the various parts of the agenda.

Union County educators retire with combined 61 years’ experience

After a combined total of 61 years in education, West Union Attendance Center School Counselor Kathryn Henderson and Assistant Teacher Shirley Swain have retired from their professions.

The winning word was “typhoon” at the Union County Spelling Bee and West Union student Annabelle Botts took home the prize money and the winning title.
