    Iva Jackson, 78

    Iva Tyer Jackson, 78, of New Albany, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born March 13, 1930, in Union County to Kirk Tyer and Louis Whittington Tyer. She was the coordinator for the elderly transportation, driving the Lift bus. She was a member of the New Albany Church of Christ. She was noted for her kindness and her serving heart.

    Phillip Stroud, 57

    Phillip Wayne Stroud, 57, of Pontotoc, died Jan. 31, 2009 at his residence near Pontotoc.  He was born on March 2, 1951 in Memphis, Tenn. to the late L.C. and Haddie Reid Oaks Stroud.  He was a disabled veteran of the US Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne, a member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion.

    Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Toxish Baptist Church with Bro. Rusty Miller officiating.  Mortimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Rakestraw, 66

    Norman “Cotton” Rakestraw, 66, of the Jericho Community, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a former employee of White Milling and a retired employee of Reeder Farm Supply. He was a member of the Jericho Baptist Church.

    Services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at the Jericho Baptist Church with Bro. Marvin Robbins officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Waters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Troy L. Defer Jr., 58

    Troy L. Defer Jr., 58, of Red Banks, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at his residence. He was born Nov. 23, 1950, in New Albany to the late Troy Leon Defer Sr and Mary Virginia “Lou” Hisaw. He was the Pastor of Red Banks Baptist Church and an executive member of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. He traveled to several different countries as a volunteer in missions thru the Lafayette-Marshall Baptist Association. He served several churches as pastor and was loved and respected by all.

    Warren, 86

    Clara Mae Heatherly Warren, 86, of New Albany, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at her daughter's home. She was born May 10, 1922, in Lafayette County to Jerry Heatherly and Nannie Belle Dollar Heatherly. She was a member of Hurricane Baptist Church.

    Services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Chris Aldridge and Bro. James Lewis officiating. Interment was in Sand Springs Cemetery.  United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

    Glenn Davis, 75

    David Glenn Davis, 75, of Myrtle, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Lee County to Dan Davis and Verdie Oswalt Davis. He was a retired engineer, working at Stratford for many years. He was a Baptist and a member of Jericho Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and telling tales with his buddies.

    Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2008, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Terry Rodgers officiating. Interment was in Beulah Cemetery.

    Gordon Morris, 64

    John Gordon Morris, 64, of Myrtle, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1944, in New Albany to the Late Johnnie A. Morris and Ellen Burks Morris. He was a partner in Morris Bros. Feed and Seed prior to being disabled several years ago. He was a Methodist and was the caretaker of his mother prior to her death in 2007.

    Harold Hall, 87

    Harold Clinton Hall, 87, of Blue Mountain, died Dec. 9, 2008, at his residence.  He was born Sept. 1, 1921 in New Albany to Hubert Clinton Hall and Emma Coker Hall.  He served during WWII in the US Army.  He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Tom Haynes Construction.  He was a Baptist.

    Services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jeff Lawrence and Rev. W.L. Oaks officiating.  Interment was in Wallerville Cemetery.  United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

    Holcomb Scott, 75

    John Holcomb Scott, 75, of Hickory Flat, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was born June 10, 1933, in Union County to Dwight L. Scott and Beulah Brownlee Scott. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired schoolteacher from West Union School and a retired employee of Morehead Industries. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
