    Vera Mary Velasco Mitchell, 70, of New Albany, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at her home. She was born June 20, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Joseph and Victoria Verdone Velasco. She was a homemaker.

    Ryne Wilhite, 19

    Ryne Keith Wilhite, 19, of New Albany, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, as the result of an automobile accident in Chilton County, Ala. He was born Aug. 26, 1989, in Tupelo. He was a graduate of New Albany High School, where he played football. He also was on the football team at Northeast Mississippi Community College and currently on the football team at Faulkner University. He was very active in the Baptist Student Union. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in New Albany.

    Jonell Coker, 68

    Jonell Sanders Coker, 68, of Ellistown, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at her home. She was a native of Union County. She was a homemaker and was self employed in child care. She was a Baptist and a member of Ellistown Baptist Church. She loved and enjoyed playing with her grandchild, and she enjoyed the outdoors and working in her flower garden.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Mike Powell officiating. Interment will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.

    Laura Mae Hale, 90, of Myrtle, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Arkansas to Sailaus and Ola Henderson Boulas. She was a homemaker and a member of Enterprise Baptist Church.

    Patricia Mason, 65

    Patricia Ann Mason, 65, of New Albany, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at her home near New Albany. She was born Oct. 12, 1943, in Arkansas to Robert and Lorene Estess Pickles. She lived in Lee and Union counties most of her life. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Oak View Baptist Church.

    Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany with the Rev. Mike Sanders officiating. Interment was in Enterprise Cemetery. Glenfield Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Annie Ruth Aldridge Grant, 91, of New Albany, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, MS. She was born Feb. 20, 1918, to the late Lonzo Thomas Aldridge and Jessie Garrison Aldridge. She was a lady of many talents, one being a school bus driver. She was an active member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.

    Marian H. Briscoe, 74, of Myrtle, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born Jan. 29, 1935, in West Point, Ga., to Zach Hagedorn Sr. and Mary Power Hagedorn. She was a homemaker and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class at Myrtle United Methodist Church. She loved her family first, and enjoyed soap operas, needlework and sewing.

    J.W. Hodum, 66, of Walnut, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.  He was born June 1, 1942 to the late James Earnest and Minnie Mae Mathis Hodum.  He was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He was the owner of Hodum Logging, Inc.

    Services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Estes and Bro. Lyndle Davis officiating.  Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery.

    Paul E. Hunsucker, 81, of Hickory Flat, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Michigan City to Dudley W. Hunsucker and Lennie Owens. He was Church of Christ and an auto mechanic. He loved fishing with his friends and especially with his nephew, Jerry and also enjoyed playing cards. He owned and operated Hunsucker Wrecker Service.

    Walter Chalmers, 70

    Walter Chalmers, 70, of New Albany, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. He was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Pontotoc to Isaiah Chalmers and Lillie Pearl Sloan Chalmers. He worked for Robbins Oil Company and later for Carr Oil Company. He was a very loving and giving person to anyone who needed help.
