    Sonny Down's Sunday School class went to Cravin’ Catfish on June 23.  Enjoying the food and fellowship were Jimmy and Kathryn Baker, Kay and Mickey Page, James and Thomas Ann Gray, Vera and Ellis Perkins, and Barbara and Virgil Floyd.  Sonny and Diane Downs were unable to attend because of an illness in the family.

    The Fourth of July holiday had residents traveling, harvesting vegetable crops, cutting hay, and finally enjoying some good rain showers that helped the countryside as the heat in the 100 plus degrees range for many days had taken a toll on the county.  Fireworks around Shady Grove and neighboring communities were enjoyed from our vantage point on the Shady Oaks hill on Hwy. 346.

    On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Union County Baptist Associational meeting was held at Macedonia Baptist Church.  The church fed from 175 to 200 people for lunch.

    Fall is such a wonderful season.  The Lord is so good to us with the lovely things he gave us to freely enjoy.

    Brother and Mrs. Sammy Coker visited Sammy’s aunt Nannie Lee Coker during the week.

    Ann Pannell visited one day during the week.  Hugh Edwards came and underpinned my mobile home.  It really looks nice and I thank him very much.

    First, I must apologize to my readers for my goof in the last news column. I was in a big hurry when typing up the news and inadvertently mixed up some of the telephone numbers.

    I am always asking you to call me with news and then I goofed and it would have been impossible to reach me.

  • Playhouse

    It was the typical Thursday morning with Bible study heading the day’s agenda. I loaded my book bag and purse and left our driveway at 7:30 - right on schedule. The heated seat was reason for praise - a winter preview had made a grand entrance.
