Retailers race from goblins and candy corn to Santa and reindeer. If we look hard we’ll find a cardboard pilgrim and a few turkey feathers in the mix. With the rush of holiday celebrations that are packed into the end of the year, there’s even less space for the celebration of Veteran’s Day - the 11th of November. What a shame.

  • Sherman News, November 10, 2010

Sherman is proud to have four election holders who are very good at their jobs. Last Tuesday, Nov. 2, Catherine Parks, Joyce Parks, Wayne Turner, and Jane Westmoreland worked the election all day in an efficient, dedicated, and accommodating way. Thank you for your hard work.

There were fifty-two who attended the 2010 reunion.  Stephen Fitzgerald gave the blessing prior to the covered-dish meal.  The meal was in recognition of all October birthdays and anniversaries.  Frances Dunlap brought the cake.

It was the perfect night - at least for football.  No need for sunscreen or fans - the fall temps in the late evening game time called for sweaters and light jackets.  Othel and I filed in with the steady stream of Rebels and Tigers and exited onto the playing field.  As I positioned my camera on my monopod I scanned my panoramic view.  It WAS a sellout, and the electricity from both teams was being translated into yells and cheers from every ticket holder.
