New Albany High School has announced that Tarver Reeder and Justin Jarvis are the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2011.
Reeder, the son of Glen and Tammie Reeder, is the Valedictorian with a 4.0 grade point average and a 97.897 numerical average. While at NAHS, Reeder was garnished with several high honors, including the honor roll throughout all four years of high school. Reeder was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Technology Students of America, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Academic Competition Team, the NAHS annual musical, school quartet, mixed ensemble, varsity choir, high school band and the step team. Reeder was also selected twice as an All-State musician in the All-State Show Choir and was selected to several honor bands, including ones at Mississippi State, Delta State and Ole Miss.
A member of Thaxton Baptist Church, Reeder is active in both the adult and youth choirs.
Reeder will attend Mississippi State in the fall, where he will major in Music Education with a vocal concentration.
Jarvis, the son of Steve and Candy Jarvis, is the Salutatorian with a 4.0 GPA and a 97.621 numerical average. He was a three-year member of the varsity tennis team, playing a part in the Bulldogs’ team state championship in 2010. Reeder was also a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, National Honors Society, NAHS H.U.N.C.H. Team and Mu Alpha Theta.
Jarvis attends Pleasant Ridge Church, and is a member of the Light House youth group and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Praise Band.
He will attend Mississippi State in the fall to major in Mechanical Engineering.
Both advise the underclassmen to take advantage of each school year, continuously work hard and take nothing for granted.
“This shows that hard work pays off and it matters all four years,” Jarvis said. “Just try hard every year, and it will pay off in the end. Don’t wait until your last year to start trying.”
Reeder feels that his experience at NAHS has shaped him into the individual he is and has enjoyed his time in high school.
“It was very fun, and it shaped me into the person I am today through the classroom activities and extra activities on the side,” he said. “It’s all been fun.”
Reeder and Jarvis, along with their Senior classmates, will become graduates at the New Albany High School Commencement Ceremony at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 27, at Kitchens’ Field.
