WU swept at Ashland, Lady 'Dawgs 18-1

Ashland 56

West Union 50 (g)

Claire Wilkerson had 15 on the night, but the Lady Eagles fell short on the road, losing 56-50 at Ashland on Tuesday.

After falling behind 15-9 in the first quarter, West Union was able to cut the deficit to one at the half, as Ashland led 18-17.

The Lady Eagles were able to tie the game in the third frame, but Ashland had a productive 22-point fourth quarter, which propelled them for the win.

April Rollins had 13 on the night for the Lady Eagles, who fall to 16-7 on the year, 1-2 in division play.

Ashland improves to 9-16, 3-1 in the division, as they were led by Kiana Jones with 18, Sandricka Bowen with 13 and Khadijah Preston with 10.

West Union will be on the road Friday, as they will take on Myrtle.

Ashland 70

West Union 40 (b)

Ashland played a stingy defense as they downed West Union 70-40 Tuesday night.

The Eagles remained in the game until the third quarter, as Ashland held the Eagles to only 2 points, while putting up 21 themselves while picking up their first divisional win.

Wesley Jumper scored 19 for the Eagles, leading all scorers on the night.

For Ashland, Shondrik Mull and Darius Duke each scored 10.

West Union falls to 4-18 on the year and remain winless in division play at 0-3. The Eagles will take on Myrtle Friday night.

New Albany 56

Shannon 49 (g)

The Lady Bulldogs were able to hold off their division rival on the road, as Jazmine Spears led New Albany to the 56-49 win at Shannon.

The Lady Red Raiders scored 15 in the second frame to cut New Albany's lead to 28-24 at the half. After a slow third quarter by both teams, New Albany outscored Shannon 19-17 to pull out the seven point win.

Spears led all scorers with 20 icha Washington with 17 and Tierra Lucas with 10.

For Shannon, Keta Watkins scored 19, followed by Brianna Fells with 12.

The Lady 'Dawgs are now 18-1 on the year, 3-0 in division play. New Albany will host county rival Ingomar Friday night.

Shannon 66 New Albany 45 (b)

A big third quarter by the Red Raiders helped put away the Bulldogs, as Shannon downed New Albany 66-45.

Holding a 29-20 lead at the half, Shannon outscored the 'Dawgs by 10 in the third quarter to expand their lead to 19, securing their 10th win of the season.

Todd Gamble led New Albany, who fall to 9-9 on the year, 1-2 in division play. Gamble scored 17in the game, followed by Kareem Brown with 12.

The Red Raiders were led by William Green with 20, Danardo Watkins with 15 and Alex Thorton with 14.

New Albany will look to avenge last week's loss to Ingomar in the Union County Tournament, as they will host the Falcons Friday night before taking on Clay-Chalkville from Alabama in the Hot Bed Classic Saturday afternoon.

Belmont 53 East Union 45 (g)

Despite cutting an 11 point halftime deficit, the Lady Urchins were unable to complete the comeback, falling at home to Belmont, 53-45.

Falling behind 34-23 at the half, East Union outscored Belmont 11-4 in the the third quarter, making it 38-34 heading into the final frame.

Outscored 15-11 in the fourth, East Union falls to 4-18 on the year 1-3 in division play.

Sunnie Knighton and Amy McCollugh each scored nine in the loss.

East Union will travel for their next game at New Site on Friday.

Belmont 54 East Union 48 (b)

East Union was unable to hold on to their lead, as they dropped a 54-48 decision Tuesday night.

The Urchins led at the half 27-19, but allowed Ashland to come back in the second half, as they were outscored 18-12 in the third and 17-9 in the fourth to fall to 9-13 on the year, 1-3 in division play.

Matthew Carter and Garreth Pannell each led East Union with 16, while Ethan Roaton added 10.

For Belmont, Derek Joslin scored 14, followed by Gage Smith with 13.

East Union will next be in action on Friday, as they will travel to New Site. The Urchins will also participate in this weekend's Hot Bed Classic, where they will face Houlka in the first game of the day.
