West Union, East Union battle in Round Robin

County rivals met up on the final night of the West Union Round Robin, with East Union and the Eagles closing out the tournament with a series split.
In the girls game, Leah Paige Goolsby finished her fourth game in a row scoring in double figures with the Lady Eagles winning 48-35.
Trading the lead throughout the first half, the Lady Urchins took a 20-17 lead to the half before being out scored 14-8 in the third.
Ashley Leach scored all of East Union’s points in the third, finishing with a team-high 13.
Julianna Garner led West Union with 12 points, while Alie Newby finished with 11 and Goolsby with 10 points.
In the boys game, East Union held a commanding lead, but only held on for a 73-63 win.
Led by Drew Bruce with five points off the bench in the first quarter, the Urchins built a 19-4 lead after the first and went into the half ahead 40-20.
A resilient Eagle squad, led by Chase Taylor’s 21 points, held the Urchins to 10 third quarter points and made it 62-59 after a basket by Drew Gray in the fourth. Free throws helped East Union seal the win, as they went 10-for-16 in the final quarter.
Hickory Flat took home the overall tournament title with both the boys and girls finishing the three day tourney undefeated.
