UC looks to build on win at New Site

Coming off of last week’s 56-12 win against Benton County, Union County will be on the road this week taking on New Site.
Head coach Scott Duley has seen much improvement with his offensive line, and credits their effort, as well as the defense from last week’s win.
“The improvement of our offensive line has been tremendous over the last few weeks, and our defense adjusted very well to Benton County’s offensive attack,” Duley said. “They ran an unusual offense, one I’ve only heard about but never seen until last week, and they were able to score once on us with it. After that, Coach Jeremy Smithey and the defense did a great job adjusting with a solid response. Those were the two biggest keys in our win last week.”
Traveling to New Site, Duley has prepared a similar game plan for another team that is still searching for its first win of the season.
“We don’t know much, but they do have a very athletic quarterback and fullback,” Duley explained. “They lost their coach right before the season started, and they are in the same condition we were last week, searching for their first win. We’ll approach this game the same way we did Benton County, work on fundamentals and get the kids ready in every way possible.”
Keeping the team focused after their win has been part of the practice plan this week, and Duley is doing his best to keep the excitement level up for the last two weeks of the season.
“There are two ways to approach this situation,” he said. “You can either treat them like adults and approach it like work, just grinding things out each day, and that’s not a bad appraoch. For me, I like to keep them interested and keep things exciting in practice, note their progress and change things up to keep things interesting since we are working with a young group of kids. They’re working hard, and we’re excited about the opportunity to try and win another game this week.”
Friday’s game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
