Relationship between food and the South linked to obesity rate

According to the new state obesity rates released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity in the nation.    

Elena Dent, registered dietician at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, said that part of the problem is the relationship we have with food in the South.

“We do everything in excess here,” Dent said.  “We don’t have a function without food.”
