Hickory Flat had a strong opening to their 2010 basketball season, defeating Ingomar 47-38 (girls) and 85-77 (boys) last Saturday night.
The Lady Rebels held off a late rally by Ingomar after jumping ahead to a 32-14 halftime lead. With both teams scoring a combined eight points in the third, Reid Little’s 11 fourth quarter points helped cut the deficit to five late in the game.
Shalonda Reynolds and Courtney Martin each had 11 points to lead the Lady Rebels in the win.
The Falcons were not able to hang with Hickory Flat in the boys match-up, as the Rebels broke away in the second half for their win.
In Michael Seger’s first win as coach, the former Ingomar standout had four players scoring in double figures, led by Henry Bell and Michael Penilton, each with 14 points.
With the Rebels ahead by one at the half, 39-38. Reeling off 29 third quarter points, Hickory Flat broke away in the second half, going ahead by as many as 20 in the win.
Jamerson Kizer scored 11 points, while Timothy Tatum added 10 for Hickory Flat. Ingomar was led by Steven Foster with 20 points, followed by Wesley Jumper with 19, Henry Foster with 18 and Tanner McCollum with 14 points.
Ingomar will host New Albany and travel to Pine Grove and North Pontotoc this week. Hickory Flat will participate in the West Union Round Robin this weekend.
