It is a sad day for America when one of it’s two major political parties is influenced to hope and work to facilitate failure of the President of the United States in his efforts to save our economy and the American people, simply on the basis of partisan politics.
There is no longer a facade of bipartisanship and the minority party has had their other faces exposed by a radio talk show host with a reputation that includes alleged violation of the laws of the country he hopes will fail. Try as they might, the members of the party cannot deny or insulate themselves against the clear message the country receives when they hear this man rant and rave and call for the failure of the President’s recovery plan. That message is confirmed when they see audiences filled with members of this political party rising to their feet to reward these statements with a standing ovation.
The Governor of Mississippi has made his stand against the success of the President’s plan for bailout and stimulus by joining other Republican governors in a denial of some or all of these funds, regardless of the pain and suffering the people of their state’s might feel as a result. His partisanship is total and complete, even at the expense of the people of Mississippi.
That’s bad enough, but if this talk show host’s call for the failure of the President simply for partisan reasons is to become the party line, then the American people can expect even less from their elected officials than ever before. To hope for the bailout and stimulus programs to fail is to hope for the collapse of the economy of this country, not to mention economies around the world.
To wish for the failure of a government simply because you can’t be in charge is an attitude that has many childish play ground comparisons, but we’re dealing with adults. These are the same adults who benefited from the policies and programs of the previous administration while the rest of Americans found themselves further and further behind. They are the adults who were in charge, took their spoils and left the country in financial ruin.
Any consideration of actions to benefit the nation and it’s people by a bipartisan Congress has been damaged, perhaps beyond political repair unless the real Republican Party openly and completely rejects and condemns the ravings and pronouncements of this dangerous fringe of their party and it’s radio talk show host spokesman.
