There were plenty of exciting match-ups last week, and contributing the most to their respective teams are the New Albany football defense and West Union’s Callie Baggett, the Gazette Players of the Week.
Baggett had four hits, nine RBI with an inside the park grand slam, leading the Lady Eagles to a second round sweep of Jumpertown last Saturday.
“She made a great contribution for us as a team and took some pressure off of herself as pitcher,” West Union head coach Lisa Bogue said. “It gave us an extra lead at that time, and we talked that week in practice about hitting the holes, and she saw it and hit it. She did a great job, and we’re proud of her.”
The New Albany defense has stepped up many times this season, but none bigger than last week, holding Lafayette to seven points, defeating the Commodores for the division win.
The group totaled 88 tackles, led by Brady Barnes with 17, and senior Austin Howard had one sack in the win.
