Parks, Cobb to wed February 5

Mr. and Mrs. William Alvis Parks, Jr. of New Albany announce the engagement of their daughter, Sara Elisabeth Parks of Birmingham to Jonathan Christopher Cobb of Birmingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Craig Cobb of New Albany.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Childers of Ripley, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hershfelt of Tupelo, and Mrs. William Alvis Parks and the late Mr. Parks of New Albany.

Sara Beth is a 2003 honor graduate of New Albany High School where she was involved in numerous clubs and activities. She was captain of the cheerleading squad, president of the Anchor Club, a member of the Union County Leadership Academy, Homecoming Maid, and was a member of two state championship softball teams, earning All-Division honors in both slow and fastpitch softball. Sara Beth also received the Lady Bulldog Award and was selected to the Hall of Fame. 

Miss Parks is a 2007 summa cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University where she received a Bachelor of Fine Art with an emphasis in graphic design. While at Mississippi State, she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, where she served as vice-president of membership, director of public relations, and received the Eleanor Smith Slaughter Award. She served as president of Alumni Delegates, and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Order of Omega, Lambda Sigma, and Reformed University Fellowship. During her senior year, she was selected to the Greek Hall of Fame, MSU Hall of Fame, and was elected the 2006 Homecoming Queen. Upon graduation, she accepted a job with Holland and Holland Advertising of Birmingham and is now Art Director.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Hale of Tupelo and the late Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Beasley Cobb of New Albany. Jonathan is a 2002 honor graduate of New Albany where he was involved in many school activities. He was captain of the football team, receiving all-division honors. He was president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the Union County Leadership Academy. He was elected Student Body President, Mr. New Albany High School, and was selected to the Hall of Fame.

Mr. Cobb is a 2006 summa cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Accounting. During his time at Mississippi State, he served as co-director of Student Activities and was a senator for the Student Association. He was a member of Campus Crusade for Christ, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Alpha Psi, Lambda Sigma, and Freshman Forum. He is a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received a Juris Doctorate in 2009 from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude, amongst the top five percent of his class. While at the University of Mississippi, he served as an editor and Membership Director of the Mississippi Law Journal. He works in the Birmingham office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP in the Construction and Litigation practice groups.

The couple will exchange vows on Feb. 5, 2011 at American Village in Montevallo, Ala.
