 Jasper Davis, 85

Jasper W. Davis, 85, of New Albany, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at the Union County Health and Rehab. He was born April 16, 1924, in Benton County to Newton Jasper Davis and Sally Johnson Davis. He was retired from Futorian Furniture Manufacturing. He was a member of the Enterprise Baptist Church, a Mason for 50 years and a member of the Eastern Star.

Services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Bro. Jack McQuary officiating. Interment was in the Vista Memorial Park.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Roberts (Martin) of Bartlett, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Marlene Mathews, Marbeth Roberts, Marty Roberts and Burton Bridges; two great-grandchildren, Will Mathews and Nickolas Mathews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nickol Douell Davis; a sister, Sara Stroud; and five brothers, George Davis, Raymond Davis, Lois Davis, Robert Davis and Louis Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 318, Memphis, TN 38101.

Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Lecia Pannell, 48

Lecia Gail Hall Pannell, 48, of New Albany, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at her residence. She was born Sept. 16, 1960, in Union County. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and she enjoyed cross-stitching, camping and vacationing.

Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Don Wilson and Dr. Rex Yancey officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. United Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Eddie Pannell of New Albany; her parents, Leon Hall and Betty Sanford Hall of New Albany; a daughter, Megan Hogue (Pactrick) of New Albany; a son, Colby (friend, Anna Bramlett) of New Albany; a sister, Shelia Greer (Terry) of New Albany; a brother, Olin Hall (Sonya) of New Albany; two grandchildren, Logan Hogue and Reese Lynn Hogue; a niece, Anna Greer; four nephews, Devin Hall, Ryan Hall, Jeremy Greer (Krista) and Bubba Greer (Lauren); and two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Cherish.

Pallbearers were Craig Allred, Brad Allred, Joe Spencer, Brent Bullock, Jalon Bullock and Ricky Sanford.

The body lay in state at the church from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Gladys Bolton

Gladys Bolton, of New Albany, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Graceland Health Care Center in New Albany.

Arrangements incomplete and will be announced later by Beasley Funeral Home.

 

Linda Stanford, 60

Linda Paulette Cook Stanford, 60, of New Albany, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at her home.  She was born January 20, 1949 in Union County to the late James Paul Cook and Bithey Inez Easley Cook.  She loved spending time with her family and friends especially her grandboys.  She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, making crafts, shopping, and baking.  She was a member of the Keownville Baptist Church.

Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the United Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jerry Bishop and Rev. James Wells officiating.  Interment was in the Keownville Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years James B. Stanford of New Albany; 2 daughters Samantha Morris (Wick), and Jodie Zyla (Brian Cater) both of New Albany; 3 sisters Betty Grose (Edward) of Blue Mountain, Nelta Sanford (Richard), and Doris McCoy both of New Albany; 2 brothers Donald Cook (Lajune), and Eddie Cook (Linda) both of New Albany; 3 grandchildren James David Morris, Sam Wicker Morris, and Zack Zyla. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers were Michael Thompson, Liddell Stanford, Michael Stanford, Justin Sanford, Tommy Chism, Curtis Tate, and Ronnie Chism.  Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Thompson, Gerald Thompson, and Jerry Tate.  Visitation was from 5 til 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Melba Russell, 81

Melba Jean Waldrop Russell, 81, of Hurricane, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at her residence. She was a member of Sand Springs Methodist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Sand Springs Methodist Church with Bro. Joe Morse officiating. Interment will be in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Ecru is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Doyle Lamar Russell of Hurricane; her daughter, Angela Russell Browning (Jim) of New Albany; two sisters, Bernice Graham of Hurricane and Ruth Berry of Starkville; two grandchildren, Laura Goudelock of Oxford and Russell Browning of New Albany.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Eston Waldrop and Laine Powell Russell; and her siblings, John Marlin Waldrop, John Eston Waldrop Jr. and Loraine Graham.

Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Sand Springs Methodist Church.

 

John McClarty, 53

John Gary McClarty, 53, of Ripley, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at his home.  He was born Dec. 19, 1955 to Joseph McClarty and Minnie Lee Johnson McClarty in Oxford.

Services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Serenity Chapel-New Albany with Bro. Charlie Gainey officiating. Interment was in Abbeville Cemetery. Serinity Funeral Home-New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie McClarty of Ripley; five children, Molly (Dale) Bridges of Potts Camp, Crystal McClarty of Marks, Kristina (Larry) Foreman of Pontotoc, Cassandra (Jeremy) Cook of Ripley and Bradley (Amy) Grantham of Oxford; his siblings, Joseph McClarty of Tacoma, Wash., Edwin McClarty of Litchfield, Ill., Lottie Jamieson of Nashville, Tenn. and Maryann Enwright of Vicenne, Ind.; eight grandchildren and other family and friends.

Visitation was  from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
