 Anne Gardner, 87

Anne Cole Gardner, 87, died on May 20, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, following a brief illness.

She was born Anne Brewer Carpenter on December 15, 1921, the daughter of Myles Edgar Carpenter and Willie Harris Brewer Carpenter, and was a native of Booneville, Mississippi, where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1939. She attended Belhaven College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1943 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
