Minnie “Big Mama” Morris, 63, of New Albany, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Baptist Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. She was born Oct. 11, 1945 in Potts Camp to Roosevelt Ross, Sr. and Cleora Sykes Ross. She was a member of First Nondenominational Church on Bratton Rd. She was a CNA at Graceland Nursing Home until she became disabled.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at Baptist Hill Baptist Church in Potts Camp. Interment will follow in Baptist Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
Surviviors include three daughters, Carolyn Morris of Memphis, Tenn., Tracy (Eddie) Hampton of Ripley and Crystal (Christopher) Carter of Myrtle; one brother, Roosevelt Ross II of Memphis, Tenn.; her mother-in-law, Snow Bird Morris of Eades, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a host of other friends and relatives.
Visitation was 1 until 7 p.m. Thursday, with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. at Serenity Chapel.
The body will lie in state one hour before the service on Friday.
Nancy Hargett, 58
Nancy Mae Bryan Godwin Brock Hargett, 58, of Tremont, formerly of Ripley, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born July 25, 1950 to Juanita Benefield Bryan of Ripley and the late Gordon Bryan. She was a member of New Salem Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Edgar Childers and Bro. Jimmy Lucas officiating. Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, James O. Hargett of Tremont; three sons, David Godwin (Kim) of New Albany, Joe Godwin (Jeanie) of Dorsey, MS, and Terral Brock (Sandy) of Ripley; her mother, Juanita Bryan of Ripley; three step-daughters, Eloise Wilbanks and Anna Lisa Guynes, both of Walnut, and Cindy Hargett Kitchen of Bowling Green, KY; one step-son, Jamie Hargett of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Lois Brock of Ripley and Shirley Fryar (Pascal) of Blue Mountain; one brother, Wayne Bryan (Hope) of Ripley; thirteen grandchildren, Keith, Michael, Stephen, Jake, River, Tristan, Blake, Brandon, T. J., Casey, Wendy, Kirby and Kara; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands and the farthers of her children, Jerry Godwin and Travis Brock and her father, Gordon Bryan.
Pallbearers were Gary Bryan, Zane Bryan, Cody Bryan, Ricky Hall, Earl Pritchard, and Jimmy Benefield. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shaun Bryan, Audry Box, J. W. Koon, and Jeffrey Carter.
Visitation was 5 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Ripley Funeral Home.
