Northeast Mississippi Community College head baseball coach Kent Farris has announcedthat Northeast will be hosting the District I baseball tryouts for the 2011State Games of Mississippi.
Rising juniors and seniors (2012 and 2013 graduates) from the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA)’s District I will get a chance to qualify for the State Games of Mississippi on Wednesday, June 1 at Harold T. White Field in Booneville beginning at 10 a.m.
Northeast’s 2011 tryout is the third time in four years the college has hosted the District I tryout for the State Games of Mississippi.
Players chosen for the State Games of Mississippi will compete at Meridian Community College on June 22-26 with this year’s event following MHSAA rules but in a College World Series format.
The inaugural State Games of Mississippi was held in Meridian in 1992 and drew 1,200 athletes competing in 12 sports. Since 1992, over 50,000 of Mississippi’s finest amateur athletes have competed in State Games of Mississippi competitions statewide. The State Games of Mississippi is a non-for-profit organization and is primarily funded through sponsorships and contributions.
During the 2010 State Games, over 5,000 athletes from the Magnolia State gathered in Meridian to compete in 29 different sports.
Events are open to all amateur athletes and participant’s age categories vary with each sport. All participants must be a Mississippi resident for at least 30days prior to the first day of competition in their sport.
State Games of Mississippi is a privately-sponsored, non-profit organization that promotes amateur athletics and healthy lifestyles for Mississippians of all ages and abilities.
