The dream of having a high school football program in the Union County schools took a major step Tuesday night when the team played its first games at H.W. Byers in Marshall County.
More than 200 students, parents and administrators from Union County made the 90-minute trip to witness the first county football games, and fans cheered for anything and everything.
Union County has only been practicing about four weeks, but fielded a 7th/8th grade team and a 9th grade/junior varsity team. H.W. Byers is a 1A school in the second year of playing football.
