New year, new blog post

Okay, so we're going to try this blogging thing...again.

This weekend marks the opening of the 2011-2012 athletic season, and there's plenty going on with a football scrimmage and two preseason softball tournaments.

Here's the schedule of events for the weekend, beginning this evening with New Albany's annual "Meet the Bulldogs" at Kitchens' Field.

Thursday, August 11

7 p.m. Meet the Bulldogs- Kitchens' Field

Friday, August 12

7:30 p.m. New Albany @ Kossuth (football scrimmage)

Saturday, August 13

Myrtle Preseason Tournament

9 a.m. West Union vs. New Albany
10:15 a.m. Myrtle vs. Falkner
11:30 a.m. Wheeler vs. New Albany
12:45 p.m. Ingomar vs. Falkner
2 p.m. West Union vs. Hickory Flat
3:15 p.m. Wheeler vs. Ingomar
4:30 p.m. Myrtle vs. Hickory Flat

East Union Preseason Tournament

10 a.m. North Pontotoc vs. East Union
11:15 a.m. North Pontotoc vs. Tishomingo County
12:30 p.m. Tishomingo County vs. Pine Grove
1:45 p.m. Pine Grove vs. East Union

Of course, I'll be bouncing around at all of these and have full coverage of all the events in next Wednesday's Gazette. Also, as mentioned in my column this week, the 2011 Fall Sports Preview will also be in that issue, so be sure to pick up a copy.
