New Albany boys ended their golf season with a fourth place finish in the 4A State Championships, held at the Cleveland Country Club.
The two-day event saw little change in standings, as Kosciusko stayed in first place, eventually winning by one stroke over Itawamba, 644-645.
Lewisburg finished third over all, followed by New Albany in fourth. The team shot a 321 on the second day, with Holt Garrett and Will Cherry shooting the low score of 79. Peyton Dunlap finished with an 80, Cody Cissom an 83 and Ryne Stanford a 90, which was an improvement from his day one score of 108.
The Bulldogs held the same spot after the first day, shooting a team score of 337. Dunlap shot an 81, nine strokes off overall leader Ally McDonald of Itawamba, who shot a 72 on the first day.
Garrett and Cherry were three strokes behind Dunlap, finishing with and 84, while Cissom shot an 88.
McDonald remained in first, winning the individual title, shooting one-under for the tournament. The achievement marks the first time a female has won medalist honors in the boys’ tournament, playing from the men’s tees.
McDonald finished shooting a 143, and Dunlap was the closest Bulldog to her score, finishing with a 161. Garrett and Cherry finished two strokes behind Dunlap, each shooting a 163, Cissom a 171 and Stanford a 198.
New Albany’s overall team score was a 658. Kosciusko won with a score of 644.
